Logistics coordination in building the resilience of the distribution network

Purpose: The research article is an extension of the concept related to logistics coordination in distribution networks. The concept of logistics coordination extends the flow mechanisms of network governance presented in the literature so far. The aim of the article is to conceptualize logistics coordination as a set of network coordination flow mechanisms that are to strengthen the resilience of the distribution network. Disruptions analysis was used to assess the resilience of the distribution network. Design/methodology/approach: The first stage of the research was to identify the gap in the research on network governance. The assumptions of logistic coordination indicated in the literature research were the basis for the methodology of empirical research. The research was carried out in the distribution network of household appliances/electronics. The resilience of the distribution network to disruptions was assessed. Disruptions and deviations in the implemented processes were identified on the measurement cards. In assessing the resilience of the network, indicators of timeliness, completeness and orders without damage were used. Subsequently, a cause and effect analysis and FMEA were carried out. The conducted research was completed with recommendations for the coordinator of flows in the distribution network. Findings: Recommendations for the coordinator of the household appliances/electronics distribution network include mechanisms for logistics coordination that strengthen the resilience of the network. Other mechanisms that the coordinator is already using have also been identified. Among the identified mechanisms are both proactive and reactive actions. The set of mechanisms, in accordance with the proposed concept of logistics coordination, includes mechanisms focused on flexible resources, redundancy of partners in the network, redundancy of stocks at the material distribution point, extraordinary transport and forecasting for the entire network. Originality/value: The indicated mechanisms, both those used by the coordinator and those proposed to be used to increase the resilience of the distribution network, go beyond the flow mechanisms proposed in network coordination. Thus, it makes sense to extend the flow mechanisms to include logistics coordination in the broadest sense, which aims to synchronise flows, ensure the continuity of the processes carried out and the coherence of the activities of the network nodes.

Examining the link between the governance mechanisms and supply chain performance — an empirical study within the triadic context

The goal of the research is twofold. First, it aims to reveal the basic modes of governance run by the manufacturer across the examined triadic supply chains. Secondly, the paper compares the groups of triadic supply chains, applying certain modes of governance, including network governance, in terms of the relational benefits and supply chain performance. To investigate the relationship between network governance and the supply chain performance, the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) with Varimax Rotation was used, followed by the cluster analysis and non-parametric tests. The study showed that the triadic supply chains significantly differentiate in terms of the modes of governance. Further findings also indicated that the triadic supply chains that follow the network governance mode consider their performance to be significantly higher in comparison to the supply chains that do not run this type of governance mechanism. Firstly, the research showed that it is difficult to unequivocally reveal the pure mechanisms of governance, undistorted by the influence of another distinct mode in the triadic supply chains. On the contrary, they are more or less influenced by other modes of governance distinguished in the literature. Likewise, it is also important to highlight that the mechanism of governance is inseparably bound with a certain dyadic relationship established between two actors in the wider structure of supply chains. The study also showed that incorporating a clan as a social mechanism of governance together with a market and hierarchy results in increasing the relational benefits and overall performance for both dyads in the triadic supply chains.

Celem niniejszego artykułu jest identyfikacja roli i zakresu koordynacji sieciowej w zarządzaniu bezpieczeństwem publicznym. Cel ten osiągnięto na podstawie przeglądu literatury oraz badań empirycznych. W toku rozważań scharakteryzowano koncepcję koordynacji i jej motywy, a także przedstawiono cechy koordynacji sieciowej. Ponadto zanalizowano istniejące zależności, powiązania sieciowe oraz metody koordynacji stosowane w zarządzaniu bezpieczeństwem publicznym. W rezultacie stwierdzono, że koordynacja w zarządzaniu bezpieczeństwem publicznym ma charakter międzyorganizacyjny i jest sposobem organizowania zadań niezależnych jednostek na podstawie norm społecznych, które ułatwiają adaptację do dynamicznych i zmiennych warunków działania.

The goal of this article is to identify the role and scope of the network governance in public safety management. The article’s goal was reached using desk research analysis and empirical research. In the course of the analysis, the concept of coordination and its motives were characterized and also the features of network governance were presented. Furthermore, existing interdependencies, network connections and coordination methods used in public safety management were analyzed. As a result it was found that the coordination in public safety management has an interorganizational character and it is a way to organize actions of independent units based on social standards facilitating adaptation to dynamic and complex conditions.
