The paper proposes a method of computer aided space design of a logistic facility, which is based on a simplified search of the nearest neighborhood in a set of permissible solutions. An example of a solution to a research problem is presented, demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed research method.

In a general regression neural network (GRNN), the number of neurons in the pattern layer is proportional to the number of training samples in the dataset. The use of a GRNN in applications that have relatively large datasets becomes troublesome due to the architecture and speed required. The great number of neurons in the pattern layer requires a substantial increase in memory usage and causes a substantial decrease in calculation speed. Therefore, there is a strong need for pattern layer size reduction. In this study, a self-organizing map (SOM) structure is introduced as a pre-processor for the GRNN. First, an SOM is generated for the training dataset. Second, each training record is labelled with the most similar map unit. Lastly, when a new test record is applied to the network, the most similar map units are detected, and the training data that have the same labels as the detected units are fed into the network instead of the entire training dataset. This scheme enables a considerable reduction in the pattern layer size. The proposed hybrid model was evaluated by using fifteen benchmark test functions and eight different UCI datasets. According to the simulation results, the proposed model significantly simplifies the GRNN’s structure without any performance loss.

EN
We investigate exact indexing for high dimensional lp norms based on the 1-Lipschitz property and projection operators. The orthogonal projection that satisfies the 1-Lipschitz property for the lp norm is described. The adaptive projection defined by the first principal component is introduced.

Plant-plant interactions, which are defined as the effect of one plant on another of the same or different species, are inherently local in nature. Plants interact in both positive and negative ways, which are governed by the same underlying ecological dynamic processes. The Mexican endemic Picea chihuahuana Martínez is a largely untouched tree species and it is therefore an excellent model for estimating genetic potential of plant-plant interactions under natural conditions. Because of the scarce research examining plant-plant interactions at the genetic level, we tested the hypothesis that specific genetic variants of P. chihuahuana are associated with (and likely selected by) the presence of particular neighbouring tree species. To explore this question, we applied AFLP genotyping to five P. chihuahuana populations in the State of Durango, North-western Mexico. Under the assumption that the variables genetic variant of P. chihuahuana and nearest-neighbour tree species are directly related to each other, the results show a statistically significant association between such genetic variants – at one AFLP locus in one Picea population – and two nearest-neighbour conifer species (P. chihuahuana Martínez and Pinus arizonica Engelm.). The findings indicate that interactions between genetic variants and species diversity may be crucial in shaping plant communities. However, further studies are required for a better understanding of the possible roles that such associations between genetic variants might play.
