The subject of the research is the analysis of nature-based solutions in Beirut as a public space, the aim of which is to improve the quality of life in the city. The green space development system has changed over the years, but it still differs slightly from the one used in European countries. The Beirut authorities and society recognize the positive opportunities these solutions provide, so now more and more NBS can be seen on the Beirut map as time goes by. The article presents three projects of nature-based solutions in Beirut as ways to reduce negative climate change and improve relations between the city's inhabitants. Their current state was compared with the areas of these projects in 1912, 1923, 1932 and 1961. The study used case study methodology in which three projects in Beirut were analyzed in terms of changes in the structure of the city's greenery and their significance for residents. The author also used the methodology of non-participant observational studies to determine the perception of a given place by the city's population. When analyzing the available literature, it becomes obvious that nature-based solutions in Beirut have great potential to improve the quality of life in the city.

The idea of urban environmental acupuncture postulates, that in areas with no space available for green spaces, sustainability and climate resistance can be improved by small green spots in key locations. The project SALUTE4CE established pilot environmental acupuncture strategies in Central-European cities. The author was responsible for elaborating an Action Plan for the functional area of Chorzów, Ruda Śląska and Świętochłowice, Poland. The project aimed at finding spots with potential outcomes in terms of sustainability, reducing urban heat islands and improving comfort and quality of spaces, with nature based solutions: from planting climate resistant vegetation and restoring biodiversity, through improving local retention, to green roofs or vertical walls. The concept assumes, that acting in many small places can bring synergic effects and contribute to urban regeneration. Four pilot spots have been constructed so far, and other interventions shall be realized in the coming years. So far the project results have been disseminated in project documents and reports. This paper aims at a summary of project experiences and perspectives in regard to participating Polish cities.

Adaptation to climate change often aims to increase the ability of cities to retain water. In recent years, there has been a shift in the approach to managing storm water from traditional methods to nature-based methods, which view storm water as a valuable resource. This study conducted a systematic analysis of eleven contemporary housing estates that are commonly considered sustainable. The study aimed to identify the elements of rainwater management and determine whether these elements form a system. The research found that, in most cases, not all elements of a rainwater management system (RMS) were present. The housing estates in Gdańsk and Gdynia demonstrated some features of an RMS but were still incomplete due to missing elements such as channels and gaps in curbs that guide rainwater. The results suggest that the implementation of some elements of an RMS does not necessarily create a fully functional system. A fully effective RMS requires the integration of all necessary elements to allow water to flow between them.

The aim of the article is to examine the possibility of using the Temporary Innovation System (TIS) structure in the analysed projects in Lebanon, as well as to verify to what extent nature-based solutions (NBS) can be understood through the prism of TIS. The article presents several examples of nature-based solutions (NBS) in various locations in Lebanon as ways to improve the climate and relations between residents of smaller cities. The study used a case study methodology in which four nature-based solutions (NBS) projects in two Lebanese cities were analysed and compared with the expected characteristics of TIS.
