The article presents the problem of the settlements development in the Ojców National Park (ONP) and its buffer zone, both located in the suburban area of Cracow (Poland). The aim of the research was to recognize the social perception of this phenomenon, as well as the residents opinion about the limitations in spatial management related to the functioning of the Park. Interviews were made among 204 residents, and 40 representatives of local self-governments, cultural institutions, associations, administrators of tourist facilities and entrepreneurs. The local community perceives constraints in the new buildings construction and in enlargement or modernization of the existing ones as the main problem for people living in the ONP or its buffer zone. Driven by their particular interests, residents advocate the further development of the settlements and tourist infrastructure within the Park and the buffer zone, the liberalization of regulations, and even the liquidation of the Park’s buffer zone. They do not understand that the natural and landscape values (highly appreciated by them) can be degraded due to these activities.

Polana Molkówka znajduje się na północnych stokach Tatr Zachodnich (Polska), na wysokości około 950 m n.p.m. Od południa Polana graniczy z Tatrzańskim Parkiem Narodowym. Duża różnica wysokości pomiędzy poszczególnymi częściami Molkówki i zróżnicowanie hydrograficzne jest przyczyną występowania bogatej bioróżnorodności związanej z różnymi rodzajami siedlisk. W artykule określono najważniejsze zagrożenia i problemy występujące na Polanie. Największym problemem jest niewłaściwa rekultywacja polany i turystyka motorowa. Najprostszym sposobem ochrony Molkówki i podkreślenia jej walorów przyrodniczych jest utworzenie szlaku turystycznego z odpowiednim zapleczem logistycznym.

Polana Molkówka is located on north slopes of the West Tatra Mountains (Poland), at the about 950 m a.s.l. From the south the forest clearing is bordering with the Tatra National Park. Difference of the height between individual parts, hydrographical (lowland bog) and geological changeability cause appearing of rich biodiversity associated with different types of settlements. At present threats which were introduced at this work seem to be a considerable problem. From them he is biggest improper land reclamation of the forest clearing and the driving tourism. Behind themselves problems with receiving the consent to take appropriate protective action are feeling drawn to it. With the simplest way to make the forest clearing is restoring a tourist trail with good logistic.
