Zmiany naczyniopochodne są najpowszechniej występującymi zaburzeniami rozwojowymi. Dla przypadków wymagających leczenia jednym z nowych leków jest propranolol. Ocena skuteczności działania preparatu wymaga monitorowania postępów leczenia. Zaproponowano do tego celu badania termowizyjne ze względu na różnice w metabolizmie zdrowej i chorej tkanki oraz łatwość wykonała badań u małych, bardzo ruchliwych dzieci. Przedstawiono wyniki pomiarów oraz analizy dotyczące rozkładów temperatur w poszczególnych etapach leczenia.

Vascular tumors are the most common developmental anomalies. For cases requiring conservative treatment the propanolol therapy is widely used. In the work the progress of medical treatment was monitored using the thermal imaging method, because there is a measurable temperature difference between hemangiomas and surrounding areas of a healthy tissue. Another reason for selecting this method was non-contact measurement capability, making it easy to implement in case of infants and small children. The paper presents initial results obtained during the monitoring of hemangiomas from the beginning to the end of propranolol therapy. A sample picture of hemangiomas and the corresponding thermal image are shown in Fig. 1. Thermogram analysis based on absolute values of skin temperature may lead to considerable measurement errors, therefore two other methods were proposed for temperature data analysis. The first one uses the reference temperature, whereas the second one is based on a temperature histogram in the hemangiomas area. The reference temperature was determined on the basis of a single thermal image (Table 1) or from the same area recorded on multiple thermal images (Table 2). Then the relation (1) was applied to determine the mean differential temperature of hemangiomas area, which can be treated as a curing phase indicator in propranolol therapy. In the second approach the shape of the temperature histogram over the hemangiomas area was used as a measure of treatment progress. Final choice between the two considered methods of treatment monitoring will be made after gathering sufficient amount of data.
