The study makes an attempt to model a complete vibrating guitar including its non-linear features, specifically the tension-compression of truss rod and tension of strings. The purpose of such a model is to examine the influence of design parameters on tone. Most experimental studies are flawed by uncertainties introduced by materials and assembly of an instrument. Since numerical modelling of instruments allows for deterministic control over design parameters, a detailed numerical model of folk guitar was analysed and an experimental study was performed in order to simulate the excitation and measurement of gitar vibration. The virtual guitar was set up like a real guitar in a series of geometrically non-linear analyses. Balancing of strings and truss rod tension resulted in a realistic initial state of deformation, which affected the subsequent spectral analyses carried out after dynamic simulations. Design parameters of the gitar were freely manipulated without introducing unwanted uncertainties typical for experimental studies. The study highlights the importance of acoustic medium in numerical models.

Content available remote Numerical Simulation for the Bell Directivity Patterns Determination
EN
The analysis of various sound sources is performed on the basis of their directivity patterns. The literature does not contain any information about directivity patterns of bells that are instruments broadly applied to sacral purposes or to create a certain sound space from the aesthetic point of view. The paper presents the methodology of determining the bell directivity patterns by an example of the Russian bell. This example was applied because exact values of geometrical parameters and measuring data of the bell were available. The model was created by means of FEA (finite element analysis). It included a coupling between the bell and its surrounding acoustic medium. During the modal analysis, the first three natural frequencies of the bell were calculated, and then, using the harmonic analysis, the directivity patterns were determined for the frequencies. Afterwards, the transient response of the system in selected measuring points was determined. The obtained results are important for bell-founders and architects because thanks to the knowledge of directivity patterns, the constructions supporting the bells can be designed in a better way and the sound propagation can be determined more precisely. The presented method of auralisation of the bell sound makes the cooperation between the designer and the receiver fairly convenient.

Content available remote Multimedia presentation of musical instruments
EN
The problem presented in the paper belongs to a wide subject concerning the use of multimedia technology for the improvement of educational activities inmuseums and for attracting the audience with objects of art. Several examples of temporal and regular multimedia performances in galleries are known in Poland and abroad, but still the technology is not fully used in traditional museums. In the paper, the case study of multimedia presentation devoted to the collection of the historical instruments from the Museum of Musical Instruments in Poznań is described. By their nature, musical instruments are interactive, but for the reasons of security and costs, only on rare occasions may visitors listen to their sound. Multimedia can change this situation. The inspiration for creating the multimedia presentation was the 250th Anniversary of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart birth. The historical 18th century instruments from the collection of the museum accompanied by the music of the composer have been virtually exposed. Shown during the "Museums Night" in May 2006, the presentation has gained interest of hundreds of guests and proved useful for future educational actions.

Przedmiotem artykułu jest analiza możliwości zastosowania trójosiowego czujnika magnetorezystancyjnego AMR w konstrukcji nowego typu przetwornika dźwięku dla instrumentów muzycznych o metalowych strunach. Przeprowadzono pomiary trzech składowych indukcji pola magnetycznego w otoczeniu drgających strun gitary akustycznej i basowej. Dokonano próby oceny wpływu techniki gry (klasyczna, slap, tapping) na parametry składowych indukcji pola magnetycznego, amplitudę i kształt sygnału wyjściowego przetwornika.

This paper describes application of three axis magnetoresistive sensor in electroacoustic transducer for steel stringed musical instruments. Three components of flux density in proximity to acoustic and bass guitar strings were measured. The guitar technique (pluck/pop, slap, tapping) influence on flux density components, amplitude and shape of output signal was discussed.
