We investigate an alternative 100G solution for optical short-range data center links. The presented solution adopts wavelength division multiplexing technology to transmit four channels of 25G over a multimode fiber. A comparative performance analysis of the wavelength-grid selection for the wavelength division multiplexing data link is reported. The analysis includes transmissions over standard optical multimode fiber (OM): OM2, OM3 and OM4.

EN
In recent years the interest in optical multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) transmission has increased significantly. Focus of this work is the development of a time domain model of optical MIMO channels using modal diversity. Next to modal and chromatic dispersion, modal crosstalk caused by mode combiner, splitter, splices and also modal coupling within the transmitting fiber can be taken into account. The simulated MIMO impulse responses are validated by practical measurements. The channel measurements confirm the accuracy of the proposed time domain model.

W artykule omawia się optyczny system transmisji typu MIMO (multiple input – multiple output). Zaproponowano model czasowy optycznego kanału MIMO. Wzięto pod uwagę modalną i chromatyczną dyspersję , modalny crosstalk (przesłuch) oraz modalne sprzężenie włókna optycznego.

The possibility of using MIMO (multiple input multiple output) technique, which is well-known from radio communications, has been experimentally shown at the optical domain. A successful 2-channel transmission beyond the baseband of 4.4 km long OM2 grade 50 μm core multimode (MM) fiber has been demonstrated. Total throughput of 400 Mbit/s has been obtained. Incoherent detection of the light signals at the receiver has been used.

Content available remote Section of gradient index multimode fiber as an elementary fiber grin lens
EN
In the work presented below it has been demonstrated that the section of the multimode fiber with gradient refractive index distribution in the core spliced to a singlemode fiber modifies the path of rays in a manner analogous to the GRIN type lens. Using a small section of graded-index optical fiber as a lens provides several advantages, including: small size, well matched fiber-lens diameter, stable fiber-lens interface, and a comparatively low cost of fabrication of an elementary fiber lens. The aim of the present paper is to discuss the technological process that enables fabrication of elementary fiber lenses with different lengths, and the measurement system for analysis of optical power density distribution in the light beam modified by an elementary fiber lens.

In this paper, we present a theory concerning low-frequency modal noise in the cascade of couplers. This theory enables calculation of signal-to-noise ratio in cascade connection of multimode couplers. We provide a series of numerical calculations based on the model for different realizations of the couplers.

Omówiono standardy sieci WLAN ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem IEEE 802.11 (WiFi). Przedstawiono także możliwości zastosowania transmisji RoF (Radio over Fiber), wykorzystującej światłowody wielomodowe (MM) w takich sieciach. Przytoczone w pracy wyniki badań wskazują jednoznacznie na możliwość wykorzystania transmisji RoF w światłowodach MM do transportu sygnałów o praktycznie wszystkich protokołach wykorzystywanych w sieciach WLAN.

In the paper, there is a concise description of standards used in WLANs with the stress laid on IEEE 802.11 (WiFi). Possibility of employment of RoF transmission over MM fibers in WLANs is also reviewed. Presented results univocally indicate that the Radio over MM Fiber technique may be successfully used for the transmission of practically important WLAN protocols.
