The paper presents results of research on thermal conductivity of actovated carbon packed bed of irregular-shape and various-size grains. The experiments were carried out on an experimental apparatus built to investigate the transient heat transfer, used in ealier similar investigations of packed beds of basalt spheres and steel spheres. The comparison of timevariation of temperature distributions in investigated beds shows that the thermal conductivity of the bed of activated carbon of various-size grains can be estimated on the basis of a model used for beds of identical spheres of material with conductivity close to the porous carbon particles. The thermal conductivity of activated carbon is also calculated on the basis of a bifractional model of Bauer. The results obtained from these two methods, that is the comparative method and the model of Bauer, appear to be close to each other.
