Recent decades have been characterised by dynamic spreading of the application of textiles in new fields and regions, apart from the traditional ones. Textiles have found application in medicine (e.g. artificial sinews, blood vessels), in the building trade as reinforcements, insulators, diaphragms, roofing etc., similarly in civil engineering as geotextiles and biotextiles, and also in the shipbuilding, air-transport and motor industries, or outer space technologies. Textile products have also found application as frameworks not only in flat but also in three-dimensional, two-phase constructions (composites). The expansion of textile products into new branches of techniques results from their capability of transporting considerable loading, white the mass of the construction is relatively smalI. It also results from the fact that the assortment of fibres constantly increases, being enriched, all the time, by varieties characterised by high strength parameters.
