The paper presents movement analysis of railway buffer heads. The analysis was based on recorded video of cooperating railway buffers during operation. In this paper is presented displacement of operating railway buffer heads in horizontal and vertical plane. Furthermore in paper is specified buffer stroke during operation with maximum speed of 40 km/h. Relating these values to the static characteristic of analyzed buffer it was possible to determine the values of longitudinal forces acting on buffer under determined conditions.

Wyniki obliczeń wykorzystano do wyznaczenia siły wzajemnego oddziaływania, a następnie charakterystyki deformacji przedniej części motocykla i boku samochodu oraz energii rozpraszanej w procesie deformacji.

The initial phase of a research experiment, where a motorcycle struck the side of a passenger car, was analysed. Attention was focused on the longitudinal movement of the motorcycle and lateral displacement of the car. The analysis covered the deformation that took place in the zone of contact between the vehicles. The parameters of motorcyclist, motorcycle, and car’s motions at successive instants were determined by analysing the video record of the experiment and the measured time histories of accelerations of motorcyclist’s body and both vehicles. The calculation results were used for determining the interaction forces and then the characteristics of deformation of the motorcycle front and the car side as well as the energy dissipated during the deformation process.

The aim of the paper is to present the analysis of the influence of chosen kinetic factors on the side-kick technique. This issue is of a significant importance in the traditional version of Taekwon-do, where a single strike may reveal the winner. A male athlete, a black-belt holder, has participated in this case study. Generally accepted criteria of sports technique biomechanical analysis were adhered to. The athlete executed a side kick four times (in Taekwon-do terminology referred to as yop chagi) in a way most typical of his usual kick execution in board breaking. The parameter values obtained were used to determine the individual curves of the changes in velocities in the function of relative extension length of the kicking leg. The maximum knee and foot velocities in the Cartesian coordinate system were determined. The leg lifting time and the total time of kick execution as well as the maximum force which the foot exerted on the ground were also determined. On the basis of the values obtained the average values and the standard deviation were calculated. The correlation dependence (r = 0.97) shows that a higher knee velocity significantly affects the velocity which the foot develops and that the total time of kick execution depends on the velocity which the knee develops in the leg lifting phase (r = 0.75). The average maximum speed was obtained at the length of the leg equal to 82% of the maximum length of the fully extended leg. In the kicking technique used by the athlete, this length can be considered for this athlete the optimum value for achieving the maximum strike dynamics.

Radial head fractures constitute 33% of all elbow fractures. In cases of unreconstructible fractures, the resection of the head was advocated. Radial head arthroplasty is an alternative way of the treatment. As the implantation could end up with complications, thus new and better designs are constantly looked for. One of such designs is modal/bipolar radial head endoprosthesis. The aim of this paper is to assess the functional outcome following the implantation of this endoprosthesis using movement analysis system. Seven patients participated in the study: 5 after implantation of endoprosthesis and 2 after surgical reconstruction of the radial head. The upper extremity movements with EMG were assessed during gait and pronation/supination movements with and without the external load. The functional abilities of patients with radial head endoprosthesis do not differ from those of the patients after the elbow reconstruction. This allows the patients normal, daily activity, with no restrictions and pain.

This paper presents 2 - dimensional model of man which was used for numerical analysis of human body behaviour during falls down and its consequences for human cervical and lumbar spine. The researches contain creation of model which enables human body motion analysis in a situation corresponding to real falls with simultaneous analysis of internal physiological phenomena in human spine during motion in frontal plane. The model of falling man was created using Working Model 2D.

Computers are used in the outdoors and in connection with cold store work. Cold hand and fingers limit data input, as studied here. Six input devices; trackballs, pens, and a mouse were tested by 19 participants in a Fitts' target acquisition task with 2 target sizes under 2 experimental conditions; warm and cold right hand. Measures were acquisition times, number of errors, participant's preferences, and observed handling of the devices. Effects of device, target size, and cold were significant. Learning and attempts to improve handgrip were confirmed. Large enough targets, a thick pen, and a mouse make computer work practicable in the cold. Direct visual feedback, as with pen on template with target images, shortened acquisition times by half a second.
