Factors motivating academic teachers to improve their teaching skills - pilot studies

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to develop hypotheses regarding the factors shaping the internal motivation of academic teachers to improve their teaching skills. Teaching methods and forms of communication have become the main research context. Design/methodology/approach: The studies were based on the review of literature on motivation theory and pilot surveys. The pilot analysis was based on data visualization methods and factor analysis. Findings: The use of modern communication methods might be correlated to age, and the use of modern teaching methods to gender. The teaching methods and forms of communication with students are influenced by factors related to the need to acquire knowledge and peer pressure. Originality/value The paper stresses an important aspect of the work of an academic teacher which is didactic work, which is not often taken into account in scientific research. The paper attempts to examine the factors that shape the teacher's motivation to improve their working methods in this regard.

Education in Romania, in the context of adaptation to the European integration requirements and the reaction that has to provide facing the new challenges of the knowledge society, its looking for more resources to become efficient, modern and performant. This paper draws the attention over the relevant issues concerning the motivation for choosing the profession of university teacher starting from the question: what mechanisms, what springs are those which are able to direct the academic human resources toward a persistent effort in relation to its purpose: efficient educational process, trained and motivated college.

Dokument ten zwraca uwagę na istotne kwestie dotyczące motywacji do wyboru zawodu nauczyciela akademickiego, począwszy od pytania: jakie mechanizmy są w stanie kierować akademickie zasoby ludzkie w kierunku trwałego wysiłku w odniesieniu do jego celów: skutecznego procesu edukacyjnego, wyszkolonego i zmotywowanego kolegium.

Artykuł przedstawia najczęściej spotykane czynniki wykorzystywane w procesie motywowania pracowników do bardziej efektywnej pracy. Zaprezentowane w niniejszym opracowaniu wyniki badań wskazują, że w polskich dużych restrukturyzowanych przedsiębiorstwach zachęty pieniężne, jak wzrost wynagrodzenia, premia czy nagroda finansowa mają wciąż najwyższą wartość. Jednakże bodźce pozamaterialne, jak rozwój kwalifikacji czy awans nabierają coraz większego znaczenia.

The most often factors used in motivating process are represented in this article. The research results presented in this report indicate that the money encouragement as the growth of salary, premium or financial prize continually have the highest value in Polish large restructured enterprises. However, the immaterial stimuli, as the development of qualifications or the promotion gather the more and more large meaning.
