This article presents the opto-electronic inspection method of gaskets assembly in roller bearings developed directly in a process line. Computer based processing and image analysing methods were applied to detect and identity defects of the gaskets assembled. This paper describes the theory behind the methods used, its advantages as well as limitations. Moreover, lighting techniques that enable visualisation and detection of defects are presented in this article. The catalogue of gaskets assembly defects was prepared within the research work. It covers such defects as: the faulty assembly of the gasket in the bearing, the protrusion of the gasket beyond a bearing, the loss of material, rolling up, bending, the protrusion of the gasket lip from the duet and surface deformation. The article presents the results of the tests carried out on the experimental stand as well.

There is a number of innovative automated inspection systems implemented as far as the production of roller bearings for the car and aircraft industry is concerned. Those systems are employed in order to eliminate all the faulty products as early as in the assembly stage of the product life cycle. This article presents the inspection method of gaskets assembly in roller bearings as well as the optoelectronic automatic inspection system of that assembly. The laser triangulation method was applied in the non-contact inspection method for measurement and detection of gaskets assembly defects. Typical gaskets assembly defects were identified during experiments and the catalogue of those defects was prepared. The laser triangulation method applied, enables the detection of the product faults with the 0.1 mm accuracy. The measurement set is composed of two laser heads measuring simultaneously both bearings' gaskets. The device is equipped with mechatronic modules responsible for the feeding of the roller bearings that are being controlled, their positioning in the measurement zone and their final selection. The programmable logic controller (PLC) has been used in the control system. The device is adapted to the implementation of the assembly of the roller bearings in the process line.
