The fundamental principles of the passive protection concept of high-speed passenger trains at accident collisions on 1520 mm gauge railways have been developed. The scientific methodology and mathematical models for the analysis of plastic deformation of cab frame elements and energy-absorbing devices (EAD) at an impact have been developed. The cab frame and EAD for a new-generation locomotive have been designed. The EAD prototype crash test has been carried out.

W artykule zaprezentowano procesy związane z projektowaniem, budową, badaniami i wdrożeniami do eksploatacji nowych oraz modernizowanych lokomotyw elektrycznych i spalinowych przeznaczonych do ruchu liniowego i prowadzenia prac manewrowych i przetokowych. Zaprezentowano w nim osiągnięcia krajów europejskich we wdrażaniu do ruchu platformy nowoczesnych lokomotyw liniowych oraz w modułowej modernizacji lokomotyw spalinowych najczęściej jednokabinowych wykorzystywanych w pracach manewrowych. Ponadto przedstawione zostały korzyści wynikające z wdrożenia do produkcji i eksploatacji modułów, które mogą być wykorzystywane w wielu typach (seriach) lokomotyw, zarówno liniowych jak i manewrowych. Artykuł zawiera również rozwiązania modułowe zastosowane w lokomotywach liniowych oraz propozycje modułów do zastosowania w jednokabinowych lokomotywach spalinowych przeznaczonych do prac manewrowo – przetokowych rozwijanych w kraju. Wyniki prowadzonych prac mogą przynieść znaczne oszczędności w procesach projektowo – wdrożeniowych lokomotyw modułowych oraz w obniżeniu kosztów eksploatacyjnych (przeglądy, naprawy, części zamienne, zapasy magazynowe, serwis).

This article presents the processes associated with the designing, construction, tests and implementations for operation of the new and modernized electric and diesel locomotives intended for line motion and carrying out the shunting works. The achievements of the European countries in the implementation to operation of platform of the modern line locomotives and the modular modernization of diesel locomotives, mostly one-cabin, used in shunting works are also presented. Moreover, the advantages resulting from implementation to production and operation the modules that can be used in many types (series) of locomotives both line and shunting are also given. This article includes the modular solutions used in line locomotives and proposals of modules for using in one-cabin diesel locomotives intended for shunting works developed in the country. The results of carrying out works can give the significant savings in the design and implemented processes of the modular locomotives and in reducing the operation costs (inspections, repairs, spare parts, stocks, service).
