The paper describes the possibility of using high-efficiency motors to fans mill drives. Criteria for economic analysis of replacing standard motors by energy-saving ones are quoted. The results of this analysis are presented. Mathematical models of induction motors for dynamic tests are briefly described. Simulation and measurement results of start-up for standard and energy-saving motors used in fans mill drives are given. Advisability of such a replacement is presented in the paper conclusion.

The paper describes the procedure applied by the EcoFund Foundation and refers to the terms of obtaining grants for investment projects connected with modernization of electric drives. The EcoFund Mechanism was established in 2005 in cooperation with the Polish Foundation for Energy Efficiency. Within the framework of this mechanism the EcoFund Foundation can donate subsidies for modernization of electric drives including: replacement of standard electric motors with the high efficiency motors, replacement of pumps, fans, compressors etc., installation of control systems. Possible EcoFund financial support may reach up to 30% of the qualified capital cost.

This article presents four financial mechanisms, which could be used for modernization electric drives toward energy efficient ones. Rebate Program is dedicated for smaller electric motors and is offering surcharges to their prices, while Bank Ochrony Środowiska (Bank of Environmental Protection) and Narodowy Fundusz Ochrony Środowiska i Gospodarki Wodnej (National Fund of Environmental Protection and Water Treatment) offers "soft loans" with interest rates below commercial ones. EcoFund (Polish debt for environment swap) if Supervisory Board would make a relevant decision, will offers a grants.
