Activities of WP 7 in the period September 2004 - April 2005 were devoted mainly to finalization of analysis of CEGRN'03 observing campaign and production of combined solution from relevant number of CERGOP processing centres. These results were then applied to estimation of the velocity field in the region using CEGRN epoch observations from 1994 to 2003. These new, more reliable velocities will serve as basis for subsequent strain analyses. Status of the CEGRN in 2003 comprising 71 stations is shown in Fig. 1. Among them are 35 permanent stations (including the IGS stations outside the Central Europe region which are used for referencing CEGRN to ITRF).

The main objective of Work Package 7 (WP7) was modelling of the regional intraplate three-dimensional velocities at the millimetre level on the basis of GPS satellite observations. Subsequently it was anticipated to use the GPS velocity filed for detection of velocity changes and for strain analysis in the region of Central Europe. This analysis has to be completed by evaluation of statistical significance of the derived velocities and strain parameters. All relevant information has to be visualised and to result to geo-kinematical maps of Central Europe describing the geometrically derived velocities and crust deformations. Inputs to WP7 are permanent and epoch GPS long-term observations in the region of Central Europe, east Alpine-Mediterranean and Balkan. The main information is expected from CERGOP epoch campaigns because their complexity, station distribution and long observing history. The permanent GPS stations in the region are analyzed within Work-Package WP5 "GPS data analysis and the definition of reference frames" (Hefty, 2006) and WP6 "Analysis of long term coordinate time series" (Caporali et al., 2006). Velocities from some new stations established within the CERGP-2/environment are estimated in section 2.6 of this report.

The Work Package 7 (WP7) is oriented to application of results obtained from GPS permanent and epoch observation in the Central European region for geo-kinematical and geodynamical purposes. The input values for WP7 analyses will be the 3D velocity field and its covariance matrix. It is expected that the velocities of monitored points (the horizontal components and height component) will represent the kinematical behaviour of individual sites at the millimetre level. The velocity field will be then transformed to the strain field describing the neo-tectonic character of the territory. The transformation has to consider all stochastic parameters of the input information to obtain confidence intervals for all relevant characteristics which are interest for geophysical and geological studies. The final information will be visualized in the form of geo-kinematical maps describing the geometrically derived information about lithosphere deformations completed by geophysical and geological information.
