Based on the pre-INDOEX (Indian Ocean Experiment) observationa, a dust aeroso model is validated and used in a global atmospheric model for medium-range weather prediction. The period of INDOEX campaign has been chosen to study the characteristics of mineral dust aerosols during transition from the North East Monsoon phase to the South West monsoon phase. Surface radiative fluces of the five day forecast of the model are compared with the corresponding pre-INDONEX (hereafter INDOEX) observations. The results show the impact of long-distance transport of dust in combination with winds from the Indian subcontinent towards the oceanic region. Also, the direct radiational effect of the mineral dust aerosols of varying optical depths on the model predication has been investigated.
