Trip planning mobile application: a perspective case study of user experience

Mobile trip planning applications may contribute to popularising public transport, provided they work efficiently and gain high user acceptance. This article aims to take a closer look at the functioning of the JakDojade application, which has been the most popular platform in Poland for several years, supporting travel planning by public transport. In the presented case study, the authors tried to diagnose problems and indicate the directions of application development. At the same time, through this analysis, the authors aimed to demonstrate the usefulness of researching user comments from the viewpoint of managing the development of mobile applications and related services. A case study methodology was used to perform a descriptive study. Data on user feedback on JakDojade mobile application in Poland comes from Google Play Store. Semantic categorisation of user comments and sentiment analysis allowed for identifying user problems and diagnosing emotions related to its use. The presented methodology allowed for diagnosing typical user problems for the JakDojade application, which may help indicate further development directions. The authors attempted to demonstrate the usefulness of researching user comments from the point of view of managing the development of mobile applications and related services. The semi-automatic approach to text analysis presented in the article highlights the problems related to the study of user reviews. The limitations of the proposed methodology and the possibilities for its improvement were indicated.

Trwa swoisty wyścig na nowoczesne technologie i rozwiązania pomagające w zarządzaniu. Dotyczy to także sektora wod-kan. Rozwiązania takie można oczywiście kupić, implementując gotowe schematy do warunków firmy, lub samodzielnie zaprojektować i wdrożyć, by w pełni odpowiadały na potrzeby przedsiębiorstwa.

Purpose: The purpose of the paper is to present the research on reliability of mobile applications in distributed systems. Design/methodology/approach: Ensuring the reliable operation of the software created for Android OS is related to ensuring compatibility with different versions of the systems. The use of various security policies, formal and structural requirements in various Android releases results in a high failure rate of dedicated programs. Findings: There is, therefore, a need to implement new testing methods. Originality/value: The article proposes a method of software reliability analysis dedicated to distributed systems. The developed solution is based on concurrency using the actor model. As part of the research, the effectiveness of the developed solutions was evaluated.

Low usability of mobile application is thought to diminish the perceived level of the quality by a user whose experiences substantially determines its market success or failure. However, while a single method of measurement employed to study usability may produce an unreliable or incomplete evaluation outcome, in this paper, contrarily we propose to take advantage of both qualitative and quantitative methods adequate to collect data, that would describe all usability attributes. In particular, in the scope of mobile application usability studies, this paper (i) depicts the main assumptions of elaborated M4MAUME methodology, (ii) describes the self-developed software tool (RVDA) for retrospective video data analysis, (iii) specifies the experimental setup, and (iv) discusses the preliminary results obtained from 20 experiments performed on four different groups of mobile applications. Eventually our findings lead us to the conclusion that mixing different methods have produced reliable and valuable outcomes which may be used to improve and manage usability in current and future projects, as well as to enhance existing software quality assurance (SQA) programs.

Porównanie wydajności szkieletów aplikacji mobilnych umożliwiających programowanie z wykorzystaniem technologii internetowych

Na przestrzeni ostatnich lat powstało wiele szkieletów aplikacji pozwalających na programowanie aplikacji mobilnych. Część z nich bazuje na językach programowania typowych dla tworzenia aplikacji internetowych, takich jak HTML czy JavaScript. W artykule zawarte jest porównanie trzech takich wieloplatformowych środowisk programistycznych jakimi są PhoneGap, NativeScript oraz Appcelerator. W każdym z tych środowisk powstała aplikacja o identycznych funkcjonalnościach przeznaczona na system Android. Zaimplementowane testy pozwoliły sprawdzić która z aplikacji jest najwydajniejsza pod względem czasu jakiego potrzebuje na wykonanie poszczególnych funkcji. Przedstawiono zestawienie i analizę otrzymanych wyników.

Over the last few years many frameworks allowing programming mobile applications have been created. Some of them are based on programming languages typical for internet application programming - HTML or JavaScript for example. This paper presents a comparison of three cross-platform environments: PhoneGap, NativeScript and Appcelerator. Using each of these environments an application with identical functionalities was created. The application was designed for Android operating system. Implemented tests allowed for determining which one of the application framework is the most efficient with respect to the time needed for executing respective functions. Obtained results are shown and analyzed.

Clothing fit is one of the important factors affecting consumers’ purchasing behaviour and clothing satisfaction. The aim of this study was to develop a mobile-based body size calculator program to compare standard mass production body measurements with female body measurements taken individually. Another aim of the study was to investigate the effects of size difference between the body measurements taken individually and mass productionbased measurements on pattern drafting. At the end of the study, the program developed was run, the differences between the patterns examined and pattern modifications made according to the results obtained.

Dopasowanie odzieży jest jednym z ważniejszych czynników wpływających na zachowania zakupowe konsumentów i satysfakcję z odzieży. Celem badania było opracowanie mobilnego programu do obliczania rozmiaru odzieży w celu porównania standardowych pomiarów masy ciała z indywidualnymi pomiarami ciała kobiecego. Kolejnym celem badania było zbadanie wpływu różnicy wielkości pomiędzy indywidualnymi pomiarami ciała a pomiarami opartymi na masowej produkcji na etapie projektowania szablonu. Podczas badania opracowano program, porównano różnice pomiędzy indywidualnymi pomiarami ciała a pomiarami opartymi na masowej produkcji, a następnie na podstawie uzyskanych wyników dokonano modyfikacji szablonów.

Improvement of urban taxi services by using a mobile application

Traditionally, besides personal vehicles, individual passenger transportation is carried out by taxi services. These services have both positive sides, such as, for example, door-to-door delivery and comfort, as well as negative sides, such as the high cost of the trip. On the one hand, the services, such as Uber and Gett, attract customers with the help of low prices, but, on the other hand, they have a number of disadvantages, the main of which is the problem concerning transportation security. In addition, it must be mentioned that the usage of individual transport is often associated with incomplete load of vehicles, which causes an additional negative impact on the environment as well as on the road network. This article presents a decision support system for taxi dispatch services based on the model of optimal route choice. Optimization is carried out with the help of multifactor analysis of transportation requirements and selection of the optimal route in accordance with given priorities. Such a system will reduce the cost of transportation through the selection of fellow travelers as well as a negative impact on the environment by using a mobile application.
