Joint Theater Level Simulation (JTLS) system is an interactive computer programme designed to carry out multi-sided war games on operational and strategic levels. The hexagonal map (the grid consists of hexalaterals) with an appropriate operational evaluation of the terrain is the basis to simulate the troops’ activities while applying this system. The main problem to solve that emerged in connection with the intention to apply JTLS system to simulate military operations was to “transfer" the operational data from a topographic map onto a hexagonal map used in the JTLS system. The article also presents procedures of preparing such a map applied in the Simulation and Computer War Games Centre at the University of National Defence.
