During refining process fibres are subjected to mechanical action to develop their optimal papermaking properties with respect to the product being made. Primary effects of refining (ace. Szwarcsztajn) differs refined fibres from no refined, they will not divide it self in to straighter components, and the effects include internal and external fibrillation as well as fibres shortening. During internal fibrillation water penetrate to areas between fibres structural elements breaking hydrogen bonds. The created connections, called "water-hydrogen bonds" are weaker than hydrogen bonds. Internal fibrillation is qualified as degree of swelling by fibres and is expressed in (%) as a WRV (water retention value). The aim of my research was to see if we could describe by empirical equation relations between some process variables affecting refining time, concentration of beaten pulp, beater lever load and internal fibrillation changes. Developed equation precisely describing dependence of WRV changes on concentrations, charge and time is proposed.
