There are over three hundred settlements in Poland, deprived of the town-rights in different historical periods. Those of the Polish central feature unique cultural landscape, which is distinguished by preserved urban system dating from the medieval site. The accession of Poland to the European Union gave anew impulse to revalorization-works in the markets oi former towns. One of the key aspects in those works becomes public green-area, which historically is a new element in market squares. Until the 19th century greenery could be found only at the graveyards close to the town churches, while town markets where devoid of it. First attempts of the introduction of greenery in the market area were made after the 1st world war. Most of green appeared in the markets after 1945. There were mostly chaotic realizations, which destroyed the inner space of markets. Contemporary revalorization designs of greenery inside the market-spaces present different levels: from narrowly arrangements, through sort of incidental works, to coherent and complete designs based on conservatory recommendations.

Response of Potatoes to Increased Levels of Arsenic in the Soil

The effect of increasing doses of arsenic (i.e. control; [formula] of soil) on two potato varieties (very early 'Rosara' and semi-early 'Korela') was studied in three-year field trials established on two sites (ZabCice and Valecov). The objective was to study the uptake and distribution of the contaminant in tbe potato plant basing on the above factors. The results were unambiguous and confirmed that the uptake of arsenic by potatoes is based on the level of its active forms in the soil; distribution in the plant is different. The average content of arsenic in tbe potato tops was many times bigher than in the tubers, i.e. [formula] of dry matter, respectively. In both cases the dependence on the degree of arsenic contamination of the soil was statistically significant. The weather conditions of the year was a relevant factor even though the effect was not the same in all the parts of the potato plant. There were no substantial differences between the varieties in view of the content of As in the tubers ([formula] of dry matter in 'Rosara' and 'Korela', respectively); in the tops the differences were greater (i.e. [formula] of dry matter in 'Rosara' and 'Korela', respectively) but they were still on the margin of statistical significance. The dependence of the concentration and distribution of arsenic in potatoes on the locality was found to be highly significant both in tubers (Zabcice [formula] of dry matter; Valecov [formula] of dry matter) and in the tops (Zabcice [formula] of dry matter, Valecov [formula] of dry matter).

Badano wpływ wzrastających dawek arsenu (tj. kontrola; [wzór] gleby) na dwie odmiany ziemniaka (bardzo wczesną 'Rosara' i średnio wczesną 'Korela') w trzyletnich doświadczeniach polowych założonych w dwóch miejscowościach (Zabcice i Valecov). Celem było zbadanie wpływu tych czynników na pobieranie i rozmieszczenia arsenu w roślinie ziemniaka. Wyniki niedwuznacznie potwierdziły, że pobieranie arsenu przez roślinę ziemniaka jest uzależnione od poziomu jego form aktywnych w glebie, a rozmieszczenie w roślinie jest zróżnicowane. Średnia zawartość arsenu w pędach ziemniaka była wielokrotnie większa niż w bulwach (odpowiednio: [wzór]). W obu przypadkach zależność od stopnia zanieczyszczenia gleby arsenem była statystycznie istotna. Warunki pogodowe danego roku były istotnym czynnikiem, mimo że ich wpływ nie był taki sam dla wszystkich części rośliny ziemniaka. Nie było istotnych różnic między odmianami w zawartości As w bulwach (odpowiednio: [wzór] w odmianach 'Rosara' i 'Korela'); w pędach różnice były większe (odpowiednio: [wzór] w odmianach 'Rosara' i 'Korela'), ale nadal były na granicy statystycznej istotności. Zależność zawartości i rozmieszczenia arsenu w ziemniaku od miejsca uprawy okazała się bardzo istotna zarówno w bulwach (odpowiednio [wzór]w miejscowościach Zabcice i Valecov), jak i w pędach (odpowiednio: [wzór] w miejscowościach Zabcice i Valecov).
