Woven air flters made of polypropylene were examined for bacterial survival. The test strains belonged to gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. An antimicrobial agent, silver nitrate (AgNO3), was added to the fltering material after the production cycle and tested for its ability to prevent microorganisms from flter colonisation. Silver emission from the fltering material was also tested. It was found out that antibacterial flter treatment resulted in an evident reduction in living bacterial cells. The presence of silver ions in the air surrounding the incubation column was established.
