Emisja uciążliwych zapachów stanowi poważny problem związany z oddziaływaniem obiektów gospodarki komunalnej na środowisko naturalne oraz na mieszkańców zabudowy z nimi sąsiadującej. Polowa skarg na zanieczyszczone powietrze dotyczy nieprzyjemnych zapachów, tymczasem przepisy regulujące ten typ oddziaywania właściwie nie istnieją. W artykule omówiono problematykę związaną z oceną uciążliwości zapachowej i sposobami redukcji nieprzyjemnych zapachów na przykładzie działań podejmowanych w Lewobrzeżnej Oczyszczalni Ścieków w Poznaniu (LOS).

Emission of odors is a serious issue connected with influence of waste management facilities on the environment and on the inhabitants of the neighboring building. Half of the complaints about air pollution concerns odors, while the rules governing this type of interaction are virtually nonexistent. The article discusses the issues associated with the assessment of odor nuisance and odor reduction methods on the actions taken in the Left Bank Sewage Treatment Plant in Poznań.

It is a regular occurrence for residents living near industrial plants to complain regarding odor problems. Those plants may also try to protect themselves from liability by demonstrating some environmental evidence. An investigation to prove whether the accused industrial complex is the major source of released odors among several potential sources of odor problems was carried out using the combination of measurement techniques. The multi-monitoring methods comprise utilizations of olfactory system, questionnaire, electronic detector and chemical analysis. This study demonstrated the achievement of integrating scientific monitoring methods to support the enforcement of odor acts for management in the industrial city.
