We describe the characteristics and development of borehole exploitation of sulphur deposits using the underground melting method. The history of its development is discussed and usage of this method in individual Polish native sulphur mines was characterized. Particular attention is focused on technological problems associated with the exploitation of deposits using the Frasch method in Polish geological conditions, and to on innovations introduced to improve extraction and have a positive impact on the natural environment.
