The overview of the technologies currently used to produce the non-ferrous metals in Poland is presented in this paper. It also includes the analysis of the technology used to produce copper and the by-product metals at KGHM Polska Miedź SA., zinc and lead at ZGH Bolestaw and Zinc Smelter "Miasteczko Śląskie" and to produce lead from the waste lead batteries by Baterpol SA. and Orzet Biały SA.

Przedstawiono zasadnicze zmiany w metalurgii ekstrakcyjnej metali nieżelaznych, jakie zaszły w Polsce w ciągu 50 lat wydawania czasopisma naukowo-technicznego Rudy i Metale Nieżelazne. Przedyskutowano rozwój techniki i technologii otrzymywania i rafinacji: cynku, ołowiu, miedzi, srebra i aluminium. Omówiono ważniejsze obszary badań naukowych i badawczo-rozwojowych prowadzonych w omawianym zakresie.

The basic changes in extractive metallurgy of non-ferrous metals, which took place in Poland over the 50 years of publication of the periodical " Rudy i Metale Nieżelazne " (Non-ferrous Ores and Metals) have been presented. Development of methods and technologies for the production and refining of zinc, lead, copper, silver and aluminium has been discussed. Significant areas of scientific research and R&D activity in this field have been described.

Podjęto pierwszą próbę wykorzystania uporządkowanego strumienia informacji do ustalenia głównych kierunków badań w dziedzinie metali nieżelaznych. Do badań wykorzystano bazę danych Zautomatyzowanego Systemu Informacji Metale Nieżelazne o liczności około 60 tysięcy jednostek (rekordów), wprowadzonych w latach 1988-1996. Zbiór poddano badaniom statystycznym w układzie tematycznym, czasowym i językowym. Określono tendencje badawcze zarysowujące się w dziedzinie metali nieżelaznych w okresie minionego dziesięciolecia. Opracowano wnioski wynikające z analizy i porównano je z danymi literaturowymi. Dokonano podsumowania badań, omówiono wyniki i sformułowano wnioski.

The first trial of utilization of the arranged stream of informations for settlement of the chief directions of studies in the region of non-iron metallurgy was undertaken. The data-base of automatized information system, with about 60 thousend records, introduced in the years 1988-1996 was utilized for the study. The collection was investigated statistically in thematic, time and language systems. The investigative drifts in the region of non-iron metals, in the past decade, were defined. The elaborated conclusions were compared to the literature dates. The reaults of the studies were summed up, and conclusions were formulated.
