Metallurgy is one of the key industries both in Russia and in the world. It has a significant influence on the situation in related industries. Therefore, the current state analysis of ferrous metallurgy production and its formation based on the short-term technological forecast is essential. Based on the foregoing, the research was aimed at analyzing the current state of ferrous metallurgy production in Russia and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the prospects for industry development in the short term. The research studies the state of the ferrous metallurgy production in Russia and abroad before the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the volume of industrial production in ferrous metallurgy and the industry structure. The COVID-19 pandemic has triggered a serious global recession, necessitating an analysis of the forecast for the development of the ferrous metallurgy industry. The research concludes that the Russian ferrous metals market is so far affected to a lesser extent compared to the European one.

Omówiono początki stosowania ceramiki w hutnictwie na ziemiach polskich, rozwój w ścisłym powiązaniu z hutnictwem, oraz początki kształtowania się przemysłu materiałów ogniotrwałych po I wojnie światowej. Przedstawiono intensywny wzrost produkcji materiałów ogniotrwałych szczególnie w latach osiemdziesiątych oraz wpływ restrukturyzacji hutnictwa w latach dziewięćdziesiątych na kształtowanie się rynku materiałów ogniotrwałych w Polsce. Scharakteryzowano czynniki, które wpływały na aktualną sytuację przemysłu.

The early stages of ceramic applications in iron metallurgy on the territory of Poland, its development and the beginning of refractory materials industry after the I world war have been described. Intensive development of refractory materials manufacturing with the maximum production in the 80-th year and influence of the steel industry restructuring on the refractories market in Poland in 90-th years of XX century was presented. The factors that had an effect on the present situation were characterized.

W artykule omówiono wskaźniki wielkości produkcji i zużycia stali w Polsce oraz przeprowadzono analizy porównawcze z innymi krajami w tym zakresie. W konkluzji stwierdzono, że dalsza redukcja zdolności produkcyjnych polskiego przemysłu stalowego mogłaby stać się barierą rozwoju gospodarki.

Indexes of quantity of Polish steel production and consumption were discussed and comparative analysis with other countries was carried out. It was found that further lowering of production capacity of Polish steel industry could be a barrier of economic development.
