Metal-glass curtain walls are now an inherent element of urban landscape. Due to the variety of forms, unlimited color range, high thermal and acoustic insulation, functionality dedicated not only to separating the external and internal environment they inspire admiration and delight. Their appearance can give the impression that they are uncomplicated structures. The reality is reversed. Metal-glass curtain walls are assembled from a number of functionally diverse elements. Designing the façade to meet the requirements is acomplicated process where designers, architects, constructors and systems manufacturers must be involved. Very important is the stage of installation a metal-glass curtain wall. Without experienced assemblers and appropriate equipment, it is not possible to perform it correctly.

For this in practice there are numerous defects arising at the design stage and at the montage stage.

W artykule omówiono wpływ elastycznych przekładek z EPDM na pracę paneli tafli szklanych w ustrojach przeszkleń mocowanych do ramowych konstrukcji stopowych. W części doświadczalnej artykułu przedstawiono uszkodzenia tafli szkła, będące skutkiem braku stosowania wkładek elastycznych dystansujących profile stopowe względem pakietów szybowych. Część obliczeniowa artykułu zawiera analizy numeryczne, które pozwalają opisać stan naprężeń generowany w elementach przeszkleń przy braku i z zastosowaniem polimerowych przekładek elastycznych, przy tych samych wartościach obciążeń. Określenie miejsc koncentracji naprężeń w kruchych taflach szyb hartowanych i określenie ich wartości stanowi podstawę prawidłowego projektowania przeszkleń i detali połączeń pomiędzy metalowymi elementami ramowymi i taflami przeszkleń.

Przedstawiono sposoby określania i podstawowych właściwości ścian osłonowych. Wyszczególniono parametry użytkowe, na których podstawie klasyfikuje się fasady metalowo-szklane. W zakresie parametrów konstrukcyjnych i użytkowych ustrojów fasadowych nawiązano do normy PN-EN 13830:2005.
