The study draws attention to methods of minimizing mechanical vibrations, based reduction of causes of their occurrence. In the case of gear transmissions such cau include, first of all, deviations in workmanship, excitations generated when teeth move and out of mesh, as well as mesh stiffness variations. The paper presents results experimental research on vibration properties of gear wheels with high-profile teeth. Basing on these results it has been found that the teeth with an integer value of the g contact ratio are most favourable in terms of minimizing the gear wheel vibrations, wh are the primary source of mechanical vibrations of the housing and the noise generated gear transmissions. This improvement results, first of all, from reduction of mesh stiffn variations, which are one of the main causes of vibrations and noise generated by a transmission.
