W artykule przedstawiono sprawy związane z zapewnienieniem bezpieczeństwa użytkowania i prawidłowej eksploatacji elektrycznego sprzętu medycznego. Zwrócono uwagę na fakt, iż uszkodzona lub niesprawna aparatura medyczna wykorzystywana do leczenia lub przeprowadzania diagnostyki może stać się potencjalnym zagrożeniem nie tylko dla zdrowia, ale także dla życia pacjentów i pracowników. W dalszej części opracowania zaprezentowano dane dotyczące wypadków przy pracy powstałych na skutek kontaktu z elektrycznością przez dotyk bezpośredni w obiektach opieki zdrowotnej i pomocy społecznej oraz opisano proces kontroli i badania medycznych urządzeń elektrycznych.

The article presents matters related to ensuring safety of usage and proper operation of electrical medical equipment. Particular attention is drawn to the fact that damaged or defective medical equipment used for treatment or diagnostics may not only become a potential health threat, but also pose risk for the life of patients and employees. Further section of the paper presents data on accidents at work resulting from direct contact with electricity in healthcare facilities and nursing homes and describes the process of inspection and testing of electrical medical equipment.

An insufficient access to trustworthy data as well as to limited information sets that can be used for the formulation of the exploitation strategy in the country is a characteristic weakness of the Polish health protection system. That situation has to be changed, both with regard to the efficiency of current functioning of the system and to the possibility of long-term development planning. Besides, a determination of health priorities and a definition of mechanisms of realization of these purposes - both in national and regional aspect - must be considered as to be indispensable. This is also connected with the problem of creating an exploitation systems network, what has been presented further in the paper. When taking into consideration regional specific characteristics, each province should elaborate own solutions concerning system functioning, introduce legal rules, elaborate computer information systems, and hence configure one efficient stable program that assures possibilities of carrying on standard analyses. Deferring improvement and repair activities concerning exploitation systems does not improve the system, and only enlarges the problem to be solved. The image, presented in the paper, indicates directions of investigations that must be quickly undertaken so preparation to an eventual entrance into the global European system be possible.
