W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań, których celem była ocena wpływu wilgotności wybranych gatunków drewna iglastego na wytrzymałość na zginanie oraz ściskanie wzdłuż i w poprzek włókien, a także wpływ na moduł sprężystości podłużnej przy zginaniu. W każdej próbie przebadano po 12 próbek w stanie suchym oraz po 12 próbek po zawilgoceniu dla drewna sosnowego i świerkowego. W toku przeprowadzonych badań stwierdzono zarówno spadki wytrzymałości w kolejnych próbach, jak i spadki modułu Younga przy zginaniu. Odnotowano też zmianę charakteru zniszczenia próbek w zależności od wilgotności.

The article presents the results of research aimed at evaluating the influence of moisture of selected coniferous wood species on bending strength and compression along and across the grain, as well as the effect on Young's modulus during bending. In each test, 12 dry samples and 12 wet samples were tested for two types of wood: pine and spruce. In the course of the tests, decreases in both strength in subsequent tests as well as decreases in Young's modulus during bending were found. It was also found that the nature of the destruction of the samples changed depending on the humidity.

The aim of this paper was to assess the histomorphometrical and mechanical properties of ribs in patients with idiopathic scoliosis who underwent corrective surgery of scoliosis combined with thoracoplasty. Methods: The analyzed material encompasses 20 females between the ages of 12 and 18, whose pre-operative Cobb angle was 56.85 degrees, on average. The participants were divided into two age groups, up to the age of 15 and above 15 years old, taking into account the anatomical location of the assessed rib fragments with a division into floating and false ribs. The analysis of mechanical parameters was carried out by means of the quasi-static 3-point bending test, and the histomorphometric evaluation of the examined rib fragments was carried out using high-resolution computed tomography. Results: The existence of explicit relationships between selected radiological parameters describing scoliosis and mechanical and histomorphometric parameters of the ribs has not been confirmed. Statistically significant correlations between age and rib stiffness as well as between Young’s modulus and stiffness depending on the anatomical location of the examined rib fragment were confirmed. Conclusions: Mechanical and histomorphometric properties of bone tissue in patients with scoliosis are not explicitly associated with the radiological parameters characterizing scoliosis.

Przedstawiono stale konstrukcyjne, które znajdowały zastosowanie w budowie pierwszych mostów spawanych. Właściwości stali zlewnych i wczesnych stali o podwyższonej wytrzymałości powodowały, że nie wszystkie z nich nadawały się do konstrukcji spawanych. Rozwój historycznych stali spawalnych w konstrukcjach mostowych przedstawiono na podstawie przeglądu norm i zaleceń projektowych. Rozpoznanie tych stali w istniejących mostach jest bardzo istotne pod względem planowanego zakresu modernizacji i wzmocnień oraz możliwości stosowania spawania.

The structural steels which were used in construction of the first welded bridges are presented. Properties of mild steels and early high strength steels caused that not all of them were suitable for welded structures. The development of historic weldable steels in bridge structures is reviewed over codes and design requirements. Recognition of these steels in existing bridges is very essential to plan a retrofitting and strengthening range as well as possibility of using welding.

Moduł sprężystości liniowej jest jednym z głównych parametrów mechanicznych skał. Na podstawie badań laboratoryjnych na podstawie metody wyznaczania modułu sprężystości liniowej zaproponowanej przez Deere’a, wyznaczono współczynnik Modulus Ratio dla skał spągowych wyrobisk korytarzowych w kopalniach węgla kamiennego. Wielkości porównano następnie z wartościami współczynników zaproponowanymi przez Deere’a oraz Palmströma i Singha.

Modulus of linear elasticity is one of the main mechanical parameters of the rocks. Based on laboratory tests on the methods of determining the modulus of linear elasticity proposed by Deere, Modulus Ratio was determined for floor rocks of roadways in hard coal mines. The values were then compared with the values of the coefficients proposed by Deer and by Palmstróm and Singh.

W pracy poddano analizie procesy elektromechaniczne zachodzące w walcarce hutniczej. W modelu matematycznym opisującym zjawisko przemiany elektromechanicznej zachodzące podczas pracy urządzenia uwzględniono podatną transmisją ruchu o rozłożonych parametrach mechanicznych. Badany układ składa się z dwóch silników indukcyjnych dużej mocy, które napędzają przez długie linie wałów walce Dla sformułowania różniczkowych równań stanu rozpatrywanego układu wykorzystano interdyscyplinarną metodę, która wykorzystuje modyfikację zasady Hamiltona.

In the paper the results of analysis of electromechanical processes occurring in a metallurgical rolling mill are presented. The flexible motion transmission described by distributed mechanical parameters is considered in the mathematical model of electromechanical transformation associated with operation of the device. The investigated system consists of two induction motors of high power, that drive rollers via long shafts. The interdisciplinary method is used in order to formulate the differential state equations of the considered system. The abovementioned method bases on a modification of Hamilton’s principle.
