Systematyczne monitorowanie stanu aktualnego i rozwoju w zakresie liczebności oraz struktury markowo-wiekowej krajowego parku samochodów ciężarowych daje możliwość pozyskiwania wartościowego materiału dokumentującego zachodzące procesy i obserwowane tendencje, a przez to pełniejszego obrazu środków przewozu eksploatowanych w Polsce. Wyniki badań struktury parku samochodów ciężarowych, prowadzonych w Instytucie Transportu Samochodowego mogą być przyczynkiem do oceny, czy analizy sytuacji w przedmiotowym zakresie, jak również do prognozowania zmian struktury krajowego parku Samochodowego.

Motor Transport Institute (ITS), since the early 90s has been studying the size and structure of the national vehicles fleet, including trucks, arranged according to makes and age. Periodic character and regularity of the studies makes it possible to obtain valuable material documenting processes, and the observed trends, and thus a complete picture of commercial vehicles registered in Poland. Such information is a contribution to the analysis of the situation in this respect and allows to predict changes in the structure of the car fleet in Poland. The available statistics on the fleet of vehicles registered in Poland are confined to the overall figures, while the ITS studies provide more detailed information. Status of the national trucks fleet is characterized by makes of vehicles regarding several interesting criteria, such as, age, permissible total weight, engine capacity, the territorial scope of registrations arranged according to the province, or other conditions relevant to the analysis of the automotive sector.
