New type of macrocyclic lactones functionalized with different groups were synthesized by reaction of the dihydroxy compounds such as 5a-d with suitable glycolyl chloride such as tri, tetra dicarboxylic acid dichloride derivatives. Their metal complexes with NaClO4źH2O, KClO4 and Ba(ClO4)2źH2O were studied. Furthermore, their metal-pic rate extraction studies with metal salts such as Na+, K+, Cu2+, Ni2+ and Hg2+ from aqueous phase to organic phase were attempted. All the structures of the ligands and complexes were confirmed by 1H-, 13C-NMR, IR, UV-Vis, MS and elemental analyses methods.

A novel end-to-end azide-bridged trinuclear Cu(II) complex [(CuIIL)3(mi1,3-N3)2](ClO4)4 has been prepared by using a macrocyclic ligand L (L = 1,3,6,9,11,14- hexa - azatricyclo[12.2.1.16,9] octadecane). The complex has been characterized by single-crys - tal X-ray diffraction analysis and magnetic measurements. The complex crystallizes in a monoclinic system, P21/n space group, with a = 9.2932(13), b = 23.398(3), c = 13.4557(19) capital A, ring, beta = 99.673(3)° and V = 2884.3(7) capital A, ring 3, that con sists of two mi 1,3-(end-to-end, EE) azide bridging ligands and three Cu(II) macrocyclic ligands, in which one of these Cu(II) macrocyclic lig ands is in an octahedron environment, and other two ones are in square-prism geometry. Magnetic measurements indicate that the complex exhibits a very weak ferromagnetic coupling between the Cu(II) centers with J = +0.20 cm–1.
