In the late of 90's the Hungarian Army's experts had to admit that the ammunition of conventional Kalasnyikov system infantry weapons of Hungarian Armed Forces had no or very little effect against the so-called "hard" targets. The modernization of the ammunition could not be avoided because they were efficient only against uncovered combatants and soft-skinned military vehicles. As a solution to this problem the experts of Technology Agency considered it necessary to be developed a new hard metal core bullet to the existing cartridges. The development started in 1999, in two calibres, namely 7,62x39 mm for carbines (assault rifles) and 7,62x54R mm for rifles and machine guns.
