This study aims to identify and analyse critical success factors (CSFs) for an organisation aiming for a resilient supply chain. The methodology followed is the systematic analysis of big databases, such as Emerald, Science Direct, and Taylor & Francis, by using a specific set of keywords for filtering. The systematic literature review leads the author to the exploration of several CSFs, followed by their prioritisation by using principal component analysis. The paper highlighted eleven vital CSFs: top management commitment, development of an effective SCM strategy, logistics synchronisation, use of modern technologies, robust information and communication technology, information sharing with SC members, collaborative partnership, improved forecasting, trust development in SC partners, collaborative partnership, strategic partnership, development of reliable suppliers, continuous improvement in the preparedness and response practices, capacity building and training and staff development. The CSFs highlighted in the paper relate to all small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). This paper identifies the CSFs for developing a resilient supply chain that is comprehensive and has the potential to address uncertain circumstances. This work is the first of its kind on CSF assessment and categorisation in resilient supply chains.

Efficient functioning in the contemporary market is a fundamental need of every organization. In times of globalization and an intensive technological and engineering progress, attaining a proper position and retaining it is a big challenge in almost every branch of industry. This is especially difficult for the SME sector, as it requires financial expenditures on system solutions and the IT base, among other things. This is where “Cloud Computing” comes in. Cloud computing services consist in providing and making available IT resources (efficient, scalable and tailored to the customer's needs) through the Web. Thanks to wide access to intensively developing mobile systems, the low costs of computer components and the associated increasingly common use of Internet of Things (IoT) in numerous devices connected to the Internet, data processing is being gradually moved onto the Web peripheries. The purpose of the study is to highlight advantages and possible threats associated with the use of Cloud Computing-based solutions for aiding the activity of enterprises at a varying organizational level following the 4th industrial revolution.

The main aim of the paper is to present the synthesis of the results of methodological analysis conducted on examples of foresight projects executed in chosen companies representing four companies type: small and medium-sized enterprise (SME), nonprofit-organization, international corporations and consulting companies as well as to posit functional approach for the implementation of foresight research within organizations. The empirical part of the study is based on the qualitative approach. A multiple case study methodology is employed. The research objects are sixteen companies experienced in foresight research. The first part of the paper gives an overview of definitions of corporate foresight and the analysis of background that have influence on the conducting of foresight in large multinational companies on one side and SMEs on the other side. In the field of the theory of foresight research, the study demonstrates that there are different motivations for foresight introduction as well as different organizational structure of teams conducting the activities and the approaches that they use. In the practical perspective, the study and a detailed functional foresight approach proposed by authors could be valuable for SMEs who consider implementing foresight research into their strategic planning processes.

Celem artykułu jest próba identyfikacji podstawowych barier rozwoju współpracy usługodawców logistycznych z MŚP. Aby zrealizować założony cel badawczy dokonano analizy wyników badań empirycznych przeprowadzonych na losowo dobranej grupie 50 usługodawców logistycznych. W wyniku przeprowadzonej analizy potwierdzono, iż bariery rozwoju współpracy usługodawców logistycznych z małymi i średnimi przedsiębiorstwami wynikają ze specyficznych, lecz głównie obiektywnych cech MŚP. Postulowana jest zatem konieczność rozwoju oferty usług logistycznych, która z jednej strony będzie uwzględniała specyficzne cechy oraz zmienne potrzeby MŚP, a z drugiej strony będzie opłacalna dla usługodawców logistycznych oraz umożliwi im ich dalszy rozwój.

The article attempts to identify the main barriers of development of cooperation between logistics service providers and small and medium-sized enterprises. The research aim was reached by conducting empirical studies in a group of 50 randomly selected logistics service providers. The results of the empirical studies confirmed that the barriers of development of cooperation between logistics service providers and small and medium-sized enterprises are caused by the specific but mainly objective characteristics of small and medium-sized enterprises. Therefore the need of development of logistics services, which on the one hand, will take into account the specific characteristics and changing needs of SMEs, and on the other hand, will be profitable for logistics service providers and enable them their further development, is postulated.

Development of information technologies and increasing communication possibilities are currently some of the most important factors of civilization’s development. Access to information and availability of new technologies influence the economy in great degree and significantly change the way enterprises behave. Application of Internet and modern IT technologies as tools provides small and medium enterprises with easier access to new markets and increases availability of potential customers, along with simplification of export. This paper describes ways in which SME can apply Internet and modern information and communication technologies in export. Special attention was given to social media.

Na rozwój małych i średnich przedsiębiorstw ma wpływ wiele czynników o różnym charakterze. Należą do nich czynniki zewnętrzne, pochodzące z szeroko rozumianego otoczenia (makrootoczenia, mezootoczenia i mikrootoczenia), jak również czynniki wewnętrzne (związane z osobą właściciela i odnoszące się do charakterystyki przedsiębiorstwa), określające możliwości, jakimi dysponuje przedsiębiorstwo. Mogą być one stymulatorami lub barierami rozwoju małych i średnich przedsiębiorstw. Gdy stają się barierami, szczególnie zasadna wydaje się polityka wsparcia tego sektora ze strony instytucji otoczenia biznesu. Jednak, jak wskazują liczne badania, działania tych instytucji są niewystarczające. Celem niniejszego opracowania jest identyfikacja i ocena wsparcia rozwoju małych i średnich przedsiębiorstw przez instytucje otoczenia biznesu w województwie łódzkim na przykładzie usługodawców logistycznych.

The development of small and medium-sized enterprises is influenced by many factors of a different nature. These include external factors derived from the environment (macro-, meso- and micro-environment), as well as internal factors (related to the person of the owner and referring to the characteristics of the enterprise) that determine capabilities of the given company. These factors can be stimulants or barriers to the development of small and medium-sized enterprises. In particular when they become barriers, a policy of support for this sector provided by business environment institutions seems to be justified. However, as indicated by numerous studies, activities undertaken by these institutions are insufficient. The aim of this paper is the identification and evaluation of support for the development of small and medium-sized enterprises provided by business environment institutions in the Lodz region, illustrated with the example of logistics service providers.

Constantly, increasing customer requirements and changing market conditions require companies to collaborate with supply chain partners. Therefore, supply chain concepts like Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) are now applied in various industries. Although VMI has become well-known in recent years, only a few companies plan, optimize, coordinate and implement processes with partners of the supply chain. Especially small and medium enterprises (SMEs) do not coordinate business processes with their suppliers, because it is very difficult for SMEs to estimate the effects of the implementation of VMI on their business processes. This paper focuses on a framework for integrating such a supply chain concept into the business processes on the demand side. To support the VMI implementation a process reference model with best practice processes is needed. Therefore, an extended process reference model LogWIN-P_VMI was developed, which helps companies to estimate the effects of VMI on their business processes.

W artykule zaprezentowano przegląd wyników badań empirycznych dotyczących wpływu wybranych czynników determinujących zastosowanie dobrych praktyk środowiskowych w małych i średnich przedsiębiorstwach (MŚP). W pracy zaakcentowano szczególnie rolę indywidualnego zaangażowania właściciela/menedżera w implementację praktyk środowiskowych, wyrażone poprzez jego świadomość ekologiczną i proekologiczną postawę. W opracowaniu zaprezentowano teoretyczny model uwarunkowań zewnętrznych świadomości ekologicznej i stosowanych praktyk środowiskowych.

The article presents a review of the results from empirical studies relevant to the influence of specific factors that determine the implementation of good environmental practices in the SME sector. The concern, the understanding of environmental awareness and the pro-environmental attitude in implementing environmental practices as they relate to the individual entrepreneur was particularly emphasized. The article presents a theoretical model of external influences on environmental awareness and practices in SMEs.

Rynek zamówień publicznych ma ogromne znaczenie dla całej gospodarki. Liczba zawieranych w jego ramach kontraktów każdego roku jest coraz większa, co prowadzi do zaangażowania coraz większej grupy firm po stronie wykonawców. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie ekonomicznych efektów uczestnictwa małych i średnich przedsiębiorstw w przetargach publicznych w Polsce z wykorzystaniem analizy wskaźnikowej jako narzędzia kontrolingu finansowego oraz prezentacja wyników badań własnych prowadzonych w firmach uczestniczących w rynku zamówień publicznych.

Public procurement market is of great importance to the economy. Number of contracts concluded in the market each year is increasing involvement by contributing to a growing group of companies on the part of contractors. The purpose of this article is to present the economic effects of the participation of small and medium enterprises in public tenders in Poland using the indicator as a tool for analysis of financial control and the results of research conducted in their own companies involved in public order markets.
