Several studies projected that by year 2025, 4.3 billion urban residents will be generating about 2.2 billion tonnes of municipal solid waste per year, over 10% of which will be plastics. The landfills in Nigeria are uncontrolled and do not conform to the international standards of similar operations elsewhere in the world; this makes the disposal of synthetic polymers in the soil even more hazardous. Due to the availability and relative inexpensiveness of Zea mays in Nigeria, this study explores the use of this natural polymer, blended with low density polyethylene (LDPE) as an alternative to synthetic plastics. Biodegradability of the biopolymer blend was observed while buried in loamy sand soil with properties similar to the soil found in the general area of the study. The results showed that a polymer blend with 50% LDPE (50 CoS) by weight had the most uniform weight loss over the period of the study. Under the soil conditions given in the study, 50 CoS also had the steadiest rate of degradation. Hence 50% LDPE (wt.%) blended with Zea mays starch is the optimal ratio with regard to the degradability of biopolymer in loamy sand soil Ota, Ogun State, Nigeria.

The article contains the analysis of influent factors on taking into account of needs materials in the casting institution. Performs the essential meaning especially in the chance of the material requirement, raw materials, parts to the production on which the demand is relative to the demand on the definite final product. In foundries one uses different methods and technicses planning needs of materials adapted to current circumstances of the given firm. At the choice the method planning one takes into account in general different factors, and particularly the type of the production and connected with this the length of the production cycle.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań wybranych właściwości fizycznych piasku gliniastego mocnego, na którym uprawiano jęczmień ozimy w technologii ścieżek przejazdowych. Oznaczenia wykonywano oddzielnie dla warstwy ornej i podornej, w strefach pola o różnej intensywności oddziaływania układów jezdnych agregatów maszynowych na glebę, tj. na uwrociach, ścieżkach technologicznych oraz pomiędzy sąsiednimi ścieżkami technologicznymi. Na podstawie przeprowadzonych badań stwierdzono, że gleba znajdująca się w strefie ścieżek przejazdowych oraz uwroci uległa dużej degradacji, przejawiającej się niekorzystnymi zmianami gęstości objętościowej, porowatości całkowitej, wilgotności, zwięzłości i wytrzymałości na ścinanie.

There were presented the results of investigations of chosen physical proprieties of loamy sand on which winter barley was cultivated in technology of transit paths. Measurements were made separately for both topsail and subsoil layers within the zones of various intensity of affecting soil by driving road systems of combined machines i.e. at headlands, technological paths, as well as between adjacent technological paths. On the ground of conducted investigations it was stated that the soil being in zone of the transit paths as well as of the headland underwent the large degradation appearing with unfavourable changes of volumetric density, total porosity, moisture, compactness and shearing resistance.
