The increase in energy consumption and energy bills in Jordan have been escalating rapidly, which requires a special concern as a large percent of the energy is imported. The need for the reducing peak demand of the distribution network is essential to decrease the overall electricity generation cost. This study was aimed at presenting a model for a home that manages its energy consumption, and the maximum savings possible if the load shifting to off-peak times was applied. It also introduced a tariff that is more concerned in time of use rather than consumption only. The power consumption profile is collected for a sample house. The profile for a week was registered and graphed. The pricing suggested was calculated per day. Moreover, some samples applied worldwide were discussed to find a suitable model. It was found that a saving rate of 16% is achievable if the time of use charge is applied. Additionally, a peak load reduction of 3.5 kWH average per day (in the peak hours) is possible.

Demand side response enables cost optimization for energy systems and industrial consumers. In many countries, it is not widely used because of implementation complexity. One of the solutions for applying demand side response is industrial process scheduling according to the energy market needs. From the energy system point of view, process scheduling implies load scheduling. The aim of this paper is to provide a solution for load scheduling by implementing value stream mapping, which is a straightforward enough for production management. Decision makers in the industry should have a clear understanding about positive effect from load scheduling and its effect to production outcome and process availability. Value stream mapping is a well-known process optimization tool from lean production philosophy. The aim of value stream mapping is to shorten the lead time of industrial processes and to reduce the intermediate stock amounts. By complementing value stream map with process energy intensity and energy stored in intermediate stocks, we can promote load scheduling possibilities. Our methodology provides a tool that is understandable and traceable for industry-minded decision makers. Finally, we present a real life test example for the new methodology, which is based on the production process of a district heating plant.

The discussions on the energy transition, the involvement of households as decentralized energy providers and the reduction of energy costs show an area of conflicts, in which they act as driving force on Smart Grids. In this regard Smart Grids are seen as a key element to address the former mentioned challenges. This paper continues the public discourse concerning Smart Grids and displays it from various perspectives such as technique, professionalism, and communication. It is striking to note that for a long time the discussion has been customer-focused, but in regard to the realization of the energy transition and the power line problem, the energy providers came to the fore. Altogether, there is a lack of a clearly defined target and its matching steps. Here, policy makers in particular are required to specify a legal environment, which considers national as well as international conditions and facilities on the internationally affected grid.

Uderzające jest to, aby pamiętać, że przez długi czas dyskusja koncentrowała się na kliencie, ale w odniesieniu do realizacji transformacji energii i problemy linii energetycznej i dostawców energii również są bardzo istotne. Bardzo ważne jest w tym zakresie prowadzenie spójnej polityki w zakresie środowiska.

In General residential sectors are the major consumers responsible for the peak load in Iran. However, the consumer satisfaction in residential area is important but there needs a method to control the peak load by using smart load controllers. In this work, a load control system is designed and applied in relation with the Iranian Social structure to reduce the intensity of the peak load.

One advantage of AMI is the ability to Demand Side Management. The ability to control the client devices (Load management) is one of the key function of AMI. Some customers with smart meters and Time-of-Use (TOU) tariffs pay different amounts for their electricity over three (or two) different time periods. They can program their smart appliances. Customer's devices are switched-on when energy is cheaper, and switched-off when it is more expensive. If clients on a massive scale will run their devices at a time when energy is cheaper, then it would affect the bulk electric grid.
