Na podstawie materiału statystycznego zebranego przez GUS w ramach powszechnego spisu rolnego (2002 r.) wykorzystanie powierzchni obór do celów rolniczych szacuje się na terenie woj. dolnośląskiego na 59%, powierzchni chlewni na 67,6%. Niepokojąco duży odsetek powierzchni obór jest niewykorzystywany i w skali woj. dolnośląskiego wynosi aż 38,2%. W przypadku chlewni odsetek ten wynosi 30,9%. Z terenu Dolnego Śląska wybrano kilka gospodarstw rolnych (1998-2000), w których autorzy wykonali badania dotyczące wykorzystania zasobów budowlanych zgodnie z własną metodyką. W grupie zinwentaryzowanych zasobów budowlanych 36% obiektów nie wymaga remontów. Kapitalny remont powinien być przeprowadzony w 32% zinwentaryzowanych budynków. Aż 23% budynków powinno być poddanych remontom niezwłocznie.

According to the data collected by the Main Statistical Office (GUS) within general agricultural inventory 2002, the usage of cattle barn area for agricultural purposes in the Lower Silesia region was 59.0%, whereas the usage of pigsty buildings was higher reaching 67.6%. Disturbing is the high percentage (38.2%) of unused cattle barns' area in surveyed region; the percentage of unused pigsties amounts 30.9%. Authors surveyed the livestock buildings' usage on the basis of own methodology on several selected farms in Lower Silesia region within 1998-2000. In the group of surveyed buildings 36% did not need any repairs. However, the major repair should be done in 32% surveyed buildings; as much as 23% objects ought to be repaired immediately.

Livestock farms are places (of different sizes) which deal with animal production. In its composition come buildings for animals, as well as different indispensable objects necessary in the production process and management. In the article the organization of small individual farms and big industrial farms long ago and today was described. Attention was focused on the influence of the location of the livestock object, on the widely understood, environment and landscape. The appearance of farms was described, particularly paying attention to difficult fragments which are always present (for example: manure storage yard). An appeal was made to landscape architects to participate in creating the image of a productive area in a village.
