The paper contains a short presentation of some models of material continua with microstructure applying the methods of differential geometry. Two main kinds of microstructure are considered: dislocation, disclination, and unholonomic defects in plasticity, nematic liquid crystal as an example of oriented medium. The aim of this presentation is to illustrate the effectiveness of the methods of differential geometry in construction of the theory of microstructural media.

The paper presents preliminary conclusions on experimental research carried out by author for conditions present during formation of liquid structures appear on a horizontal, heated surface of a metal wall. Research was carried out in the range of parameters where the droplets wet the wall surface. Water, aniline and toluene were investigated. Results were presented in the form of two- and three-dimensional relations, with regard to the change of the maximal value of the wetting coefficient in the function of characteristic parameters describing the development of the phenomenon.

The paper presents the experimental stand, methodology and results of the research on the process of two aniline droplets' spreading, that have been dropped simultaneously on a horizontal, heated surface of a metal wall. Droplets, after their contact with the surface, spread reaching their maximal spreading area. Depending on the spacing between the needle-points of the dropper, droplets can merge and thus form a stain of liquid, or remain separate objects. The analysis of research results let determine the areas of droplet structure as well as of liquid stains structure.
