Control of rebonding sand mixing as a condition for optimisation of the sand feeding system in the casting line

In order to ensure the effective operation of the casting line, synthetic sand containing bentonite has to be fed in a precisely controlled quality and quantity. The required quantity is ensured by mixing stations outfitted with turbine mixers. The quality of sand mix, defined by its technological parameters, depends on the available measurement and control equipment and the system controlling the mixers’operation. These issues are investigated at the Department of Foundry Engineering AGH-UST in collaboration with the PPP Technical Company in Now Sól (Poland), a major manufacturer of turbine mixers. This study outlines the scope and results of research work aimed to improve the control equipment to enhance the performance of turbine mixers.

Scharakteryzowano nową linię produkcyjno-doświadczalną w Zakładzie Przetwórstwa Metali INMET Instytutu Metali Nieżelaznych w Gliwicach. Zaprezentowano sposób obliczania potrzebnych wielkości termofizycznych odlewanych stopów, a w szczególności ciepła właściwego w temperaturze odlewania oraz zmiany entalpii pomiędzy temperaturą pokojową i temperaturą odlewania. Przedstawiono założenia technologiczne procesów topienia i odlewania wybranych stopów.

The new experimental production line in the Processing Plant for Metals INMET, Non-Ferrous Metals Institute in Gliwice, is characterized in this paper. The method of calculation of the needed thermo-physical quantities for the casted alloys and especially of the specific heat in the casting-temperature and of the changes of enthalpy between the room temperature and casting temperature are formulated. The technological assumptions for the melting- and casting procedures of selected alloys are reviewed.

Różnorodność rozwiązań linii odlewniczych stanowi istotną trudność ich zobiektywizowanej oceny oraz wyboru do realizacji określonych zadań produkcyjnych. Różnorodność ta wynika głównie ze zróżnicowania konstrukcji poszczególnych elementów linii, ich układu przestrzennego i funkcji spełnianych w procesie technologicznym . Zobiektywizowane i uwolnione od względów handlowych kryteria powinny uwzględniać te cechy i parametry linii, które są porównywalne w danej klasie a ponadto możliwe do względnie dokładnego, ilościowego określenia. Wartości kryteriów muszą się wiązać co najmniej w sposób jakościowy z kryterium globalnym, jakim jest ekonomiczne wytwarzanie określonej ilości odlewów w linii automatycznej w zadanych warunkach jej eksploatacji. The variety of casting lines and of their designs is the main reason of difficulties in their impartial evaluation, and in the proper choice of equipment to perform some previously determined production tasks.
