Using biologically modified flax tow and hackling noil for manufacturing of blend yarns

In the paper are presented the results of technological experiments with the manufacturing of blend yarns, of which one of the component fibres is biologically modified flax tow or hackling noil, together with a description of the physical and mechanical properties of the produced yarns. Subjecting flax tow and hackling noil to biological modification results in significant reduction of the diameter of the fibre and improves its divisibility into elementary fibres in the further processing. The biologically modified flax fibre has a linear density less than 50% of the initial value and a staple length exceeding 50 mm. The biologically modified flax fibre was blended with cotton, wool, and/or manmade fibres in a proportion of 50% or more. The blends were made into yarn of a linear density from 32 tex to 125 tex by various spinning systems, including cotton rotor-spinning system, worsted spinning system, and friction spinning system.
