Quality of the lighting columns plays a major role in the comfort and safety of life of road users. The surface quality of the materials used in the columns is especially critical during extreme weather conditions. Road infrastructure, including street lighting, uses modern lightweight materials from the group of non-ferrous materials or composites. The materials used in the manufacturing process ensure important advantages, such as durability, electrical safety, aesthetic qualities, low maintenance costs, light weight, and easy transport and assemble. This paper presents an analysis of the quality of coatings used for street lighting columns.

Obiekty i urządzenia (m. in. oświetlenie, sygnalizacja, znaki drogowe) zlokalizowane w bezpośrednim otoczeniu drogi uwzględniając ich funkcję, są potrzebne do poprawy jakości podróżowania i zapewnienia bezpieczeństwa na drodze. Z drugiej jednak strony, z racji bliskiego ich usytuowania w stosunku do jezdni, mogą stanowić potencjalne zagrożenie podczas uderzenia w nie przez pojazd, który niezamierzenie zjechał z jezdni. W konsekwencji istotne jest, aby skutki takiego zdarzenia minimalizować. Efektem tych działań jest norma PN-EN 12676 [7], która określa wymagania, a także metody badań dla konstrukcji wsporczych urządzeń drogowych, mając na uwadze tzw. bierne bezpieczeństwo.

Facilities (lighting, signaling, road signs etc.) located in direct surrounding area of road, considering their function, are required to improve the quality of travelling and provide the road safety. On the other hand because of their near location to road they may be potential threat during collisions. As a consequence it became significant to minimize the effects of such collisions. The result of these actions is the standard PN-EN 12676 [7]. It defines the requirements and testing methods for supporting structures of road facilities in the aspects of passive safety.
