Fragment zmodernizowanego odcinka linii kolejowej z Krakowa do Katowic poprawia już dzisiaj możliwości realizowania przejazdów z Trzebini do Krakowa i częściowo do Katowic.

The importance of rail transport for long and short distances is well known. In recent years, due to the growing congestion of roads, but also thanks to the modernization of railway lines, passengers have come to appreciate again traveling by trains in local, agglomeration and urban transport, i.e. for relatively short distances. This was largely due to the improvement in the quality of the railway infrastructure, the purchase of modern rolling stock ensuring comfort, the development and new means of dynamic passenger information, the increase in the frequency of trains, and the construction of timetables offering a fixed departure time. A fragment of the modernized section of the railway line from Kraków to Katowice already brings a significant improvement in the possibility of transport from Trzebinia to Krakow and partly to Katowice. The article attempts to verify opinions on the possibility of getting to Kraków and Katowice and to examine the level of satisfaction with the services and the offer of rail transport. The modernization of the railway infrastructure on a part of the tested section – that could have influenced the opinion of the surveyed inhabitants of Trzebinia and the surrounding area – have been described. In addition, the structure of the inhabitants of Trzebinia and the transport infrastructure in the city, connections between Trzebinia and Kraków and Katowice were characterized. The research problem of this article was the question: What is the importance of railway transport on the section from Kraków to Katowice for the community of Trzebinia? In order to receive more accurate answer the research question, the main hypothesis was put forward: Rail transport is a willingly chosen mean of transport to Kraków and Katowice among the inhabitants of Trzebinia. For research purposes, a survey questionnaire was conducted via social media. The survey involved 535 people who answered nineteen questions related to, among others, the choice of the preferred means of transport and the assessment of selected transport requirements related to rail transport. The obtained results were analyzed using the method of description and statistical research, which consisted in elaborating the results with the use of appropriate statistical tools.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badania ankietowego przeprowadzonego wśród pasażerów Miejskiego Zakładu Komunikacyjnego w Bielsku-Białej. Respondentów pytano o preferencje i satysfakcję z wybranych 10 postulatów przewozowych dotyczących transportu zbiorowego.

The article presents the results of a survey conducted among the passengers of the Municipal Transport Company in Bielsko-Biala. Respondents were asked about their preferences and satisfaction with the selected 10 transport postulates regarding collective transport. Their answers were analyzed in order to determine the hierarchy of these qualitative features and the actual quality gap, which show the areas requiring intervention on the part of the carrier and transport organizer. Improving the quality of collective transport in cities is necessary in order to keep passengers travelling by public transport and encourage new users to this mean of transport.

This study aimed to determine the concepts learned in Navigation and Seamanship as well as the level of satisfaction of students’ in using the training ship in terms of food, accommodation, readiness of venue, quantity of equipment, activities, speakers, and ships’ crew. The respondents of this study were the 129 students of JBLFMU-Arevalo. They were selected through stratified and cluster sampling. A questionnaire was sent to the respondents through e-mail and Facebook messenger to gather the data. The comments of the students were classified according to themes. For BSMT 1 – Familiarization and Ship Tour, in Navigation, the themes are learning the ship nomenclature and manipulating the different navigational equipment onboard, inculcating skills to plan and manage a ship for safety voyage, employing the concepts learned about the various ship positioning to arrive at the port or point of destination, and refining the importance of learning the qualities of a competent navigator. In Seamanship, the themes are enhancing concepts learned about the importance of prioritizing safety on board and learning the International Maritime Law, learning the important purposes and uses of the different navigational equipment on board, improving skills on proper operation of the ship, and uplifting the duties and responsibilities of officers and crew members on board. For BSMT 2, Port and Anchor Watch, in Navigation, the themes are, learning the uses and importance of the different navigational equipment on board, different types of navigation use to navigate accurately, employing the concepts learned about the various ship positioning to arrive at the port or point of destination, uplifting the duties and responsibilities of officers and crew members on board, and defining navigation for watercraft. In Seamanship, the themes are learning about anchor operations, familiarizing different parts of the ship, integrating seamanship skills in navigation, enhancing concepts learned about the importance of prioritizing safety on board, learning mooring operation, and definition of seamanship. For BSMT 3, Navigational Trip, in Navigation, the theme is learning the different navigational equipment on board and for Seamanship, improving seamanship skills. Having different themes for every year level indicates that the students have actually learned various knowledge about Navigation and Seamanship during their stay onboard the training ship. For the students’ level of satisfaction, the grand mean is described as “High”. This means that some aspects are good in terms of food, accommodation, venue, quantity of equipment, activities, speakers, and ships’ crew. This study concludes that the concepts learned by students’ in Navigation and Seamanship varies in each activity. Furthermore, the students were highly satisfied in using the training ship’s amenities in terms of food, accommodation, readiness of venue, quantity of equipment, activities, speakers, and ships’ crew. The researchers recommend another follow-up study to include respondents from other units as well and some other non - JBLFMU/JBLCF students utilizing the training ship to further validate the results, reduce the number of students participating in every activity to optimum to maximize the outcome intended for each activity, and finally, create a multiple choice questionnaire to assess better the concepts learned and to be given personally to the respondents.

In order to help and save the lives of seafarers, the researchers conducted a developmental research to formally create a booklet in e-copy that is a simple, situational, and handy source of knowledge. This study aimed to identify the component of the booklet based on the study of Sarinas et al. [1] in terms of the factors affecting the seafarers’ mental health and strategies they applied to counteract these issues. The ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) model was utilized to develop a booklet. A content validated researcher-made instruments were used to measure the satisfaction of seafarers over the booklet and the acceptability of the experts on the booklet with a reliability index of 0.91 using Cronbach alpha. The content analysis was employed to determine the factors affecting seafarers’ mental health and the strategies to counteract these factors. Meanwhile, frequency, percentage, rank, mean, and standard deviation were used as the statistical tools. Results revealed that, there are 30 factors included in the booklet in the Analysis phase with various situational strategies to combat the factors affecting the mental health of seafarers. Moreover, in the Design phase, there were 10 factors added with corresponding strategies emanated from instructors who were seafarers previously and from experts in mental health. In the Development phase, the booklet made use of the 4 E (Engage, Explore, Explain, and Evaluation) while for the Implementation phase, the e-copy of booklets were given to seafarers as well as the evaluation form for them to assess the booklet and indicate their level of satisfaction. In the Evaluation phase, it shows that seafarers’ level of satisfaction towards the booklet is “Very High” which means that seafarers find the overall appearance and content of the supplemental learning material excellent.

In this paper, computational and simulation results are presented for the performance of the fitness function, decision variables and CPU time of the proposed hybridization method of Mesh Adaptive Direct Search (MADS) and Genetic Algorithm (GA). MADS is a class of direct search of algorithms for nonlinear optimization. The MADS algorithm is a modification of the Pattern Search (PS) algorithm. The algorithms differ in how the set of points forming the mesh is computed. The PS algorithm uses fixed direction vectors, whereas the MADS algorithm uses random selection of vectors to define the mesh. A key advantage of MADS over PS is that local exploration of the space of variables is not restricted to a finite number of directions (poll directions). This is the primary drawback of PS algorithms, and therefore the main motivation in using MADS to solve the industrial production planning problem is to overcome this restriction. A thorough investigation on hybrid MADS and GA is performed for the quality of the best fitness function, decision variables and computational CPU time.
