Wstęp i cel: W Iwoniczu Zdroju znajdują się trwałe pamiątki po lekarzach prekursorach leczenia uzdrowiskowego. Celem pracy jest przedstawienie lekarzy, którym postawiono pomniki lub zostali patronami pamiątkowych tablic. Materiał i metody: Każda pamiątka miała założoną kartę inwentaryzacyjną i dokumentację fotograficzną. W opracowaniu wykorzystano materiały z opracowań naukowych oraz z monografii. Wyniki: W Iwonicza Zdroju znajdują się dwa pomniki lekarzy: Wojciecha Oczki i Józefa Dietla oraz tablica pamiątkowa dr Józefa Aleksiewicza. W wydanym w 1578 r. dziele „Cieplice”, Oczko zaliczył Iwonicz do znanych uzdrowisk w Polsce i opisał jego walory lecznicze. Rok 1578 umownie przyjęto za początek lecznictwa uzdrowiskowego w Iwoniczu. Dietl był w Iwoniczu 1856 roku. W pracy „Źródła lekarskie w Iwoniczu”, nazwał Iwonicz księciem wód jodowych. Patronem tablicy pamiątkowej jest Józef Aleksiewicz, prekursor współczesnej ortopedii i rehabilitacji. Wnioski: Zadaniem trwałych pamiątek jest przypominanie o postaciach do których nawiązują, oddawanie im szacunku i przekazanie o nich wiedzy następnym pokoleniom. Wśród nich są lekarze, którzy mieli znaczący wpływ na rozwój lecznictwa uzdrowiskowego.

Introduction and aims: In Iwonicz-Zdrój there are permanent remembrances of doctors precursors to spa treatment. The aim of the work is to present the doctors who were erected monuments or became patrons of commemorative plaques or streets. Material and methods: Each remembrance had an inventory card and photographic documentation. The study uses materials from scientific papers and monographs. Results: In Iwonicz Zdrój there are two monuments of Wojciech Oczko and Jozef Dietl and a memorial board of Jozef. Aleksiewicz. In “Cieplice” published in 1578, Oczko counted Iwonicz to well-known spas in Poland and described his healing qualities. The year 1578 was conventionally accepted for the beginning of spa treatment in Iwonicz. Dietl was in Iwonicz in 1856. In the work “Sources of medicine in Iwonicz” he called Iwonicz the prince of iodine waters. The patron of the memorial board is Jozef Aleksiewicz, the precursor of modern orthopedics and rehabilitation. Conclusions: The task of permanent memorabilia is to remind people of the characters to whom they refer, to give them respect and to pass knowledge about them to the next generations. Among them are doctors who had a significant impact on the development of spa treatment.

It is commonly suggested that (i) Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is essential for the delivery of quality healthcare [17], and (ii) the role of doctors is crucial in the implementation of ICT-based systems in hospitals and in general practice. Based on these two premises, this paper argues for a medical informatics course for medical students. The paper outlines the content of a one-semester elective in medical informatics that was presented over eight academic years. The course pre-dates the recommendations of the International Medical Informatics Association, IMIA [7]. Nevertheless, it is compatible with the recommendations of IMIA and also with the earlier findings of the EDUCTRA study [5]. The principles formulated in this paper are presented in order to help other educationalists (i) to obtain insights and (ii) thence to assist them to engineer medical informatics changes into their medical school environments. Each time that the course was presented, participants were asked for their evaluation of the course [9]. These views were favourable. It was thought that a follow-up survey of these same respondents - now practising doctors, some of whom took the course 10 years ago - might give further insights into the relevance and value of this course. The views of these practising doctors are presented within the paper.
