Poważnym problemem występującym w czasie eksploatacji złóż gazu ziemnego jest woda złożowa, która w miarę sczerpywania zasobów i spadku ciśnień złożowych powoduje zawadnianie się odwiertów. W związku z tym, stosuje się szereg metod wspomagania wynoszenia wody złożowej z odwiertów, m.in.: dawkowanie środków pieniących, użycie przewodów rurowych o małej średnicy, pompowanie wody złożowej, „latający tłok”, czy też sprężarki przyodwiertowe. Są to w większości przypadków jedyne sposoby na kontynuację wydobycia gazu z odwiertów w końcowej fazie eksploatacji złóż gazu ziemnego, co z kolei wpływa na racjonalne wykorzystanie zasobów.

Among the major issues in exploitation of hydrocarbon beds, especially at the final stage of mining, is the high output of formation water from oil or gas wells. This dramatically affects the cost of the mining process and the life of producing wells with high water content. Various methods of deliquification are used in the gas wells with the output and pressure values that do not ensure continuous uplift of converging water. The simpliest and most popular one is well siphoning, i.e. periodic increasing of gas tapping from the well to the output value that secures uplift of formation water from the well bottom to the surface. Other methods in use include: (1) injection of a liquid foaming surfactant into the producing well; (2) application of plunging systems where the so-called piston or ram is used to uplift the liquid from the well; (3) water pumping with pumping sets through the lifting string, whereas the gas is mined through the void around the string; and (4) application of small-bore casings. This is just a handful of examples currently applied in oil and gas mining to support formation water lifting. The solutions effectively prolong exploitation from low-yielding watered gas wells, and more than once they have secured the wells from shutdown. The legal conditions of formation waters and their injection are regulated by (1) the Polish Act on Geological Survey and Mining [6] which establishes that all conditions for injection of mining deliquification and formation water into ground shall be defined in the mining resource exploitation license, and (2) the Regulation of the Polish Ministry of Economy [5] which states that formation water lifted with gas or oil requires treatment to remove the pollutants introduced during the process and can only be injected into deposits after treatment, and only in the manner defined in a project approved by the relevant mining facility operations manager, where each injection well shall have a separate project of this kind.
