This article discusses the use of photoplethismographic method for the analysis of inflammatory processes. The aim is to show the effectiveness of using of photoplethismographic method in the analysis of the microcirculation level of peripheral vascular in inflammatory processes. As a result of researches that carried out at the Department of Maxillofacial Surgery of the Vinnitsa National Medical University, it was examined 30 patients (21 men and 9 women aged 20 to 60 years) with odontogenic abscesses and phlegmon. Treatment of patients included removal of the causative tooth, opening cellulitis or abscess, ozone therapy with silver ions. Application of this method allows dentists accurately determine: the effectiveness of the treatment; specify the duration of the rehabilitation period; identify various vascular disorders in fractures of the jaw; to evaluate the effectiveness of local anesthesia; to apply this method to plastic surgery and transplantation.

W artykule przedyskutowano użycie metod fotopletyzmograficznych do analizy procesów zapalnych. Celem jest pokazanie skuteczności użycia metod fotopletyzmograficznych w analizie mikroprzepływów w naczyniach obwodowych w procesach zapalnych. W wyniku badań przeprowadzonych w Katedrze Chirurgii Szczękowo-twarzowej Winnickiego Narodowego Uniwersytetu Medycznego przebadano 30 pacjentów (21 mężczyzn i 9 kobiet w wieku 20 – 60 lat) z zębopochodnymi ropniem i ropowicą. Leczenie pacjentów obejmowało usunięcie zębów będących przyczyną zakażenia, otwarcie chorej tkanki łącznej lub ropnia, terapię ozonową z jonami srebra. Zastosowanie tej metody pozwala dentyście dokładnie określić: skuteczność leczenie, określić czas trwania rehabilitacji, zidentyfikować różne zaburzenia naczyniowych przy złamaniach szczęki, ocenę skuteczności znieczulenia miejscowego oraz wykorzystać ją w chirurgii plastycznej i przeszczepach.

The aim of the study was to determine the cardiovascular response to continuous (4 °C for 60 min) and intermittent (10 min at 4 °C and 10 min at room temperature alternately) exposure to the cold in 30 healthy young men. The subjects were equipped with a set of identical clothing (insulation 2.1 clo) and during the stay in the chamber and outside performed the same activities, i.e., walking on a treadmill at a speed of 0.5 km/h. The tests included assessing the central circulatory system using the Holter system and assessing the peripheral circulatory system using impedance plethysmography and Doppler ultrasound. The analysis of the parameters that describe the central and peripheral circulation poses a difficulty in determining which variant of exposure constitutes a greater load on the circulatory system. It should be noted that even the conditions used in the study may cause adverse effects in the cardiovascular system.

A hybrid (Hydro-numerical) model of blood circulation developed at the Institute of Biocybernetics and Biomedical Engineering (IBIB) of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN) -Warsaw, Poland, in co-operation with the Institute of Clinical Physiology (IFC) of the National Council of Research (CNR) - Rome, Italy, is a basic model of this type solutions commonly accepted by the researchers. It is able to simulate all essential hemodynamic functions of the human cardiovascular system including the heart. During last years, resumption of works on constant-flow non pulsatile rotary pumps to be used as heart support devices is observed because of their small dimensions and easier way of implantation. Control modes of rotary pumps are different and evidently influence heart support effects. The main aim of this paper was to investigate different control systems of rotary pumps in a role of the assist devices. To fulfill this task on the hybrid model, a special computer application was worked out. The investigations included: a) loading characteristics p(q) of the rotary pump assignment at two values of a control voltage - 18V, 24V; b) physiological and pathological states simulation including parallel atrial-aortic assistance by the rotary pump. The results of the simulations obtained on the model treated as a 'virtual patient' are in agreement with the data received in medical conditions.

Expert, data based and information systems developed for medical applications are usually meant for physicians who need them in making diagnoses, training and study processes. Several similar systems meant also for patients have been developed abroad. In Poland there are no expert systems that could be supportive for making a decision by the patient and adapted to the Polish conditions. Therefore, development of such a system has been pressed ahead, of which preliminary results are presented in the report. Certain features and characteristics of existing systems and needs of the Polish patient as well as advantages for the physician have been taken into account in the report. The preliminary development of the system has been limited to selected diseases of blood circulatory and respiratory systems, with consideration of apparent symptoms concerning these systems.
