Przedmiotem opracowania jest wygląd i użytkowanie współczesnych miast w zależności od stopnia centralizacji i rozproszenia ich struktury przestrzenno-funkcjonalnej. Omówiono syntetycznie historycznie uwarunkowane układy przestrzeni hierarchicznych, budowanych na bazie siatek urbanistycznych. Współczesne doktryny urbanistyczne opisano na bazie teorii miasta zwartego i poparto przykładami miast nowego urbanizmu. Wprowadzono pojęcie layoutu urbanistycznego jako systemu zarządzania formą i przestrzenią miasta na etapie koncepcyjnym. Zwornikiem spinającym teoretyczny wywód na temat istoty siatek urbanistycznych i relacji miasto zwarte – miasto rozproszone jest optymalizacja zaopatrzenia w media poprzez zintegrowane korytarze infrastrukturalne wg zasad tzw. logistyki miejskiej.

The subject of the study is the appearance and use of modern cities depending on the degree of centralization and the dispersion of their spatial and functional structure. Synthetic historically conditioned arrangements of hierarchical spaces, built on the basis of urban networks, have been discussed synthetically. Contemporary urban doctrines are described on the basis of the compact town theory and supported by examples of the cities of New Urbanism. The concept of urban layout was introduced as a management system of the city’s form and space at the conceptual stage. A keystone linking the theoretical argument on the essence of urban networks and relations Compact City – the city is dispersed optimizing the supply of media through integrated infrastructure corridors according to the principles of the so-called municipal logistics.
