Artykuł przedstawia zagadnienie wykorzystania odpadów w budownictwie na przykładzie kontenerów transportowych. Jest ono sednem logistyki zwrotnej oraz gospodarki cyrkulacyjnej. Analizę i ocenę wykorzystania kontenerów transportowych do budowy budynków wykonano na przykładzie autorskiego projektu domu jednorodzinnego z kontenerów morskich w porównaniu do budynku w technologii tradycyjnej. Zaprezentowano wyniki obliczeń wskaźników Ecopoint, dla obu technologii, wskazując wpływ rozwiązań materiałowych na środowisko. Ocenę technologii wykonano za pomocą analizy wielokryterialnej oraz macierzy SWOT. Według WT2021 technologia kontenerowa może być z powodzeniem stosowana. Natomiast decyzja uzależniona jest od potrzeb inwestora z przewagą celowości stosowania technologii kontenerowej do budynków użyteczności publicznej i komercyjnej.

The paper presents the issue of the use of waste in the construction industry using the example of transportation conteners. It is at the heart of reverse logistics and the circular economy. The analysis and evaluation of the use of shipping containers for the construction of buildings was made on the example of the author’s design of a single-family house from shipping containers in comparison with a building with traditional technology. The results of Ecopoint index calculations, for both technologies, were presented, indicating the impact of material solutions on the environment. The evaluation of technologies was carried out using multi-criteria analysis, and a SWOT matrix. According to WT2021, container technology can be successfully applied. However, the decision depends on the needs of the investor with the predominance of the desirability of using container technology for public and commercial buildings.

Podstawowym celem artykułu jest odpowiedzenie na pytanie, w jaki sposób kontenery morskie wykorzystuje się w architekturze oraz dlaczego te jednostki transportowe zostały wykorzystane jako budulec do tworzenia ustrojów budowlanych. W celu odpowiedzenia na te pytania w pierwszej kolejności został postawiony cel badań oraz opracowana metodyka badań oparta na kwerendzie literaturowej. Podpunkt dotyczący genezy kontenera traktuje o historii, regulacjach prawnych oraz pierwszym zastosowaniu kontenera w architekturze. Następnie przeprowadzono dyskusję o przedmiocie badań, aby ostatecznie dojść do sformułowania typologii popartej przykładami i wyników końcowych. Te badania pozwoliły na sformułowanie wniosków, które wskazują na chęć wykorzystania kontenerów przez projektantów i inwestorów ze względu na ich modułowość, szybkość wznoszenia i wciąż aktualną stylistykę, które stają się jednocześnie podstawą do określenia metod projektowania przy użyciu kontenerów.

The main aim of the article is to answer the question of how the sea containers are used in architecture and why these transport units are used as a building material for building structures focusing on analyse the phenomenon of shipping containers structures. In order to answer the above questions, the research goal was first set and the research methodology based on a literature query was developed. The paragraph on the containers’ genesis deals with the history, legal regulations and the first container use in architecture. Then, a discussion about the subject of the research was conducted in order to finally form the typology supported by examples and the final results. The above research made it possible to formulate conclusions that indicate designers and investors’ willingness to use containers due to their modularity, speed of erection and ever-lasting stylistic, which at the same time becomes the basis for determining the methods of designing with the use of ISO containers.
