The article presents a reflection on the viscosity of the coating extraction using numerical methods. The viscosity of the coating slag is a factor affecting a high degree on the quality of the ongoing process of refining. Too high a viscosity will restrict the diffusion of impurities from the metal to the slag, in turn, too low a viscosity will cause spreading of slag in the vicinity of the furnace wall, and thus exposing the mirror of the liquid metal which may result in adverse effects of an oxidizing atmosphere. You should also remember that too low a viscosity can increase the loss of metal in the slag as well as hinder its recovery during casting. Using the materials database and numerical methods it is possible to determine the level of selected blends of slag viscosity. Additionally, in order to determine their usefulness in refining the values obtained can be confronted with laboratory tests using derivatograph. On the basis of the designated energy index Ew and mass index r can determine the suitability of a mixture of slag and its impact oxidizing or reducing agents.

A comparative analysis involving the evaluation of the effectiveness of investment projects can be based on various rules indicating selection of the most favorable decisions. The dynamic methods for assessment of investment projects discussed in this article, which consider the possibility of modifying the predetermined investment options, are quite complex and difficult to implement. They are used both in the construction phase of the new company, as well as in its subsequent modernization. The assessments should be characterized by a high coefficient of the economic efficiency. The, observed in practice, high dynamic variability of both the external and internal conditions under which the company operates is the reason why in the process of calculating the economic efficiency of investment projects, there is a significant number of random parameters affected by high uncertainty and risk. Investments in the metallurgical industry are characterized by a relatively long cycle of implementation and operation. These are capital-intensive projects and often mistakenly taken investment decisions end in failure of the investment project and, consequently, in the collapse of the company. In addition, the applied methods of risk assessment of investment projects, especially the dynamic ones, should be fully understood by managerial staff and constitute an easy to use, yet accurate tool for improving the efficiency of the company.

Najistotniejszą cechą charakteryzującą współczesne odlewnictwo, obok poprawy relacji ze środowiskiem naturalnym jest wirtualizacja technologii odlewniczej i procesu przygotowania produkcji. Szybka reakcja na potrzeby dynamicznie zmieniającego się rynku od zapytania ofertowego, przez przygotowanie produkcji, na realizacji zamówienia kończąc, pozwala na minimalizację kosztów wytwarzania oraz znalezienie optymalnych rozwiązań technologicznych. Możliwość podejmowania nowych, coraz bardziej zaawansowanych zadań umożliwia przeobrażenie zakładów odlewniczych z dostawców prostych półwyrobów w przedsiębiorstwa skutecznie konkurujące na europejskim rynku wysokojakościowych, przetworzonych produktów. Stan taki nie byłby możliwy bez pełnego wdrożenia narzędzi komputerowych wspomagających prace inżynierskie i zarządzanie produkcją.

The most essential feature characterizing the contemporary foundry practice is, besides improving relations with the natural environment, the virtualization of the foundry technology and of the preparation the production process. The rapid reaction on the needs of the dynamically changing market, from the offer inquiry, through the preparation of the production, till the realization of the order, allows the production costs to be reduced and optimal technological solutions to be found. The possibility of taking new, more and more advanced problems allows the transformation of the foundries from suppliers of the simple half-products into enterprices efficiently competing on the european markets of the high quality, high transformed products. Such state would not be possible without full implementation of the computer tools, supporting the engineering operations as well as the managing ones.

This paper describes modern principles of the network optimising for better distribution of the moulding sand, using modern methods of operational research and commonly available Excel calculation sheet equipped with an optimising tool called Solver.

The Poznań Volkswagen Foundry is nowadays one of the most modern foundries in Poland. In this foundry computer technique can be seen at every production stage, beginning with the design of the technology of making castings via production and control, and ending with the analysis of results. The authors of the article have presented the variety and omnipresence of computer technologies existing in foundry practice. It has been stressed that if you want to think about the success of your firm - its competition and modernity - it is indispensable to implement the advanced methods of computer-aided manufacturing.
