Rozważa się proste systemy telewizji swobodnego punktu widzenia, które są stosunkowo tanie zarówno podczas budowy, jak i podczas eksploatacji. Bardzo skrótowo omówiono także związane z takimi systemami nadal otwarte problemy badawcze oraz normalizacyjne. Artykuł ponadto dotyczy systemu telewizji swobodnego punktu widzenia, który jest rozwijany w Katedrze Telekomunikacji Multimedialnej i Mikroelektroniki Politechniki Poznańskiej. Te rozważania wspierają główne przesłanie pracy, że proste i tanie systemy telewizji swobodnego punktu widzenia mogą być dostępne w ciągu zaledwie kilku lat.

The paper deals with simple free-viewpoint television systems that are relatively cheap both by construction and by operation. The still open research problems and standardization issues are also briefly discussed. The paper also reports briefly the free-viewpoint television system that is under development in Chair (Department) of Multimedia Telecommunications and Microelectronics at Poznań University of Technology. These considerations support the main message of the paper, which proclaims that simple and low-cost free-viewpoint television is feasible in the next few years.

Pokazano, jak dużą cześć całkowitego ruchu telekomunikacyjnego stanowi ruch związany z przesyłaniem obrazu ruchomego i przedstawiono skrótowy przegląd technik kompresji obrazu ruchomego. Na tym tle pokazano nową normę bardzo efektywnego kodowania wizyjnego (High Efficiency Video Coding - HEVC). Nową normę i związaną z nią technikę kompresji opisano z perspektywy wprowadzania nowych usług multimedialnych. W ostatniej cześoi artykułu omówiono pokrótce prace normalizacyjne związane z jednej strony z samą normą HEVC, a z drugiej strony - z jej planowanymi rozszerzeniami dotyczącymi kompresji obrazów stereoskopowych i trójwymiarowych.

The considerations of the paper start with the discussion about the role of video transmission in the total telecommunication traffic. Then, a very brief overview is given for the international video compression standards. The above mentioned introductory considerations precede the introduction to the norm of HB/C (High Efficiency Video Coding). The new standard and the corresponding compression technology arę briefly described from the point of view of the new multimedia services. Therefore the last part of the paper contains a brief description of the HEVC-related standardization activities as well the description of the planned HD/C extensions for scalable and multwiew and 3-D video extensions.

The article presents the subjects associated with the video image compression in real-time. The author focused in particular on the definition of the requirements imposed by the applied compression algorithms in respect of computational potential and presentation of modern techniques necessary to meet these requirements. The analysis refers to the compression algorithm basing on Hadamard method. It shoes the possibilities connected with the application of programmable FPGA chips of big capacities. There are also present examples of the realisation of the components of the hardware implementation of the compression algorithms. Moreover the article includes a short characteristics of time requirements as regards the image compression degree testing and its quality for the applied Hadamard method are included as well. The works have been financed by the Polish Scientific Research Committee.
