Opracowania na temat architektury wiejskiej tylko marginalnie wspomninają o kolorze. Można zastanawiać się dlaczego? Maria Rzepińska w Historii koloru zauważa, że jedną z przyczyn takiego stanu rzeczy - może najważniejszą -jest bezsilność i niewystarczalność słowa wobec zjawiska koloru i nasza stosunkowo szczupła wiedza o prawach rządzących światem barw w ogóle... [14, s. 38]. Kolor bowiem, spośród wszystkich wizualnych środków wyrazu (...), wymyka się analizie i najdłużej nie posiadał systemu konsekwentnej nomenklatury, a jednoznacznej nie posiada do dziś - mimo różnorakich wysiłków w tym kierunku.

Due to varied natural conditions (the climate, shaping of the terrain, kinds of soil, local building material) as well as economic and cultural factors, etc. in Polish countryside building there has come about a great differentiation of architectural forms and the distinguishing of regions with separate building'features called architectonic regions. Within the regional division, in the belt of the southern uplands, there may be distinguished the Lower Silesian building, with the Sudeten sub-region. The materials most often used in the building of this region were wood, stone and clay, while in later periods -brick and roofing-tile. The linking of materials resulting from the distinguishing of their functions, created interesting colour compositions containing coded information on the arrangement of the building's interior. Planking of the farming accomodations remained in the natural colouring of wood, girder elements were usually dark in colour while the filling material varied in hues, depending on the localization. The hues of natural wooden walls were differentiated depending upon their situating in relation to the four quarters of the globe and the climatic conditions. The decoration of the buildings is diverse within four micro-regions (Kłodzko, Wałbrzych and Kamienna Góra, Jelenia Góra and Zgorzelec).
