This article describes the problems related to tourist and skier traffic at the peak of Kasprowy Wierch between three stations (cabin aerial ropeway, and two chairlifts). Such traffic is made hindered by the large difference in the altitudes between the upper station of the chairlift at Gasienicowa hall and the remaining stations. In order to make ease the pedestrian traffic in the proximity of these stations, a solution was searched for to ensure safe tourist traffic and limit its negative influence on the natural environment. Out of many variants, the conception of an underground passage that is to connect three objects was selected. A necessary condition in this case is the proposition of a driving technology of this object with no use of explosive materials.

W artykule przedstawiono dyskusję na temat wyboru systemu kolei linowej dla Wojewódzkiego Parku Kultury i Wypoczynku w Chorzowie, która mogłaby zastąpić wyeksploatowaną kolej ELKA. Zamieszczono wyniki wstępnych obliczeń kolei linowych krzesełkowych dla odcinka II kolei (Stadion Śląski - Wesołe Miasteczko) oraz zestawiono główne dane charakteryzujące współczesne rozwiązania kolei krzesełkowych z pojazdami zarówno niewyprzęganymi, jak i wyprzęganymi z liny nośno-napędowej. Podano przykłady wybudowanych w ostatnich latach kolei gondolowych z pojazdami wyprzęganymi w parkach i ogrodach miejskich. Koleje te doskonale nadają się do takich obiektów, jakim jest Park Śląski, spełniając rolę całorocznego środka transportowo-rekreacyjnego.

A discussion on the subject of the choice of the aerial ropeway system for the Provincial Park of Culture and Recreation in Chorzów which could replace the old chairlift ELKA has been presented in the paper. The results of the provisional calculations for the chairlifts for the section II (Silesian Stadium - Funfair) and a list of the main characteristics of the modern solutions of the chairlifts with chairs attached to the carrying-hauling rope by fixed or detachable grips have been published as well. Some examples of gondola lifts with carriers with detachable grips built recently in parks and town gardens were given. These cableways are fitted for such objects like the Silesian Park which could play the role of the yearlong transport-recreation mean.

W artykule przedstawiono charakterystykę i główne dane techniczne trzech odcinków napowietrznej kolei krzesełkowej ELKA, która została wybudowana w 1967 roku w Wojewódzkim Parku Kultury i Wypoczynku w Chorzowie. Czterdziestoletni okres eksploatacji spowodował, że obecny stan techniczny, szczególnie części podpór, nie gwarantuje pełnego bezpieczeństwa eksploatacji. Przedstawiony stan techniczny podpór oraz ocena rozwiązań kolei, które nie odpowiadają współczesnym wymaganiom, uzasadnia podjęcie decyzji o budowie nowej kolei w Parku Śląskim.

Main characteristics and technical data of the three sections of the chairlift ELKA which was built in the Provincial Park of Culture and Recreation in Chorzów in 1967 have been presented in the paper. Operation of the chairlift in last forty years made that the present technical state especially that of the line support structures does not ensure the safe exploitation. The technical state of the line support structures and the assessment of the construction of the chairlift which do not meet the modern requirements justify starting the construction of the new cableway in the Silesian Park.
